Job summary
Birmingham, Black Country and Solihull Procurement Collaborative (BBCS PC) is an award-winning procurement team hosted by University Hospital Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB), who are responsible for providing dedicated procurement support to all Trusts within the Birmingham, Black Country and Solihull Integrated Care Systems.
The procurement team play a key role in supporting the delivery of high-quality patient care whilst ensuring value for money is achieved through compliant processes plus contributing to the development and effective delivery of the Procurement Strategy; driving quality and value across the BBCS PC.
The Trust is looking to recruit two self-motivated, ambitious Assistant Category Managers to join the team. These roles will be based at Regent Court Birmingham but may require visiting / working at any of the BBCS PC sites as and when required.
In this role you will interface with various stakeholders within the BBCS Procurement Collaborative. You will be responsible for supporting the development and implementation of methodologies to facilitate and monitor contracts. Identify and develop potential opportunities to pursue efficiency and saving targets using a range of analytical tools, providing support to the Category Manager who will enable the delivery of saving targets and work-plans. You will be expected to build and maintain professional relationships, implement change and enable the Procurement Collaborative to improve the service.
Main duties of the job
The Assistant Category Manager supports the delivery of category strategies, contract management, and procurement projects to deliver savings. The role is focused on analytical support, stakeholder engagement, and continuous improvement to drive value and efficiency across the BBCS Procurement Collaborative.
*Support Category Managers in delivering savings targets and workplans.
*Assist in the development and implementation of procurement projects
*Analyse spend data to identify cost improvement and efficiency opportunities
*Support contract monitoring and performance tracking
*Build effective relationships with clinical, operational, and corporate stakeholders
*Contribute to continuous improvement and service development within procurement
*Ensure all activity is delivered in line with procurement regulations and governance requirements

Qualifications Essential
*Good Standard of General Education. *Educated to degree level and/or or extensive relevant experience.
Desirable
*Studying for or willing to study for Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) levels 4, 5 & 6.
Experience Essential
*Experience of working in a Procurement background or Customer Services Environment. *Experience of manipulating highly complex data to produce automated reports. *Experience of using databases and analytics tools. *Experience of working in a pressurised environment. *Working within a team *Working within a results driven environment. *Sound knowledge of contract management and law *Negotiation skills *Supply chain management.
Desirable
*Experience of working in public sector procurement ideally the NHS. *End to End Supply chain management. *Awareness and use of Business Intelligence Tools (QlikView/Cognos/Business Objects). *EU procurement. *Contract law. *Project management.
