About this role

Job summary

To be part of LWNH Podiatry service which comprises highly motivated team working where members are able to work autonomously and independently, providing and promoting excellent standards of high risk foot care working with multi-disciplinary teams.

To work closely with the Acute Therapy Service Lead in providing effective leadership across the service and taking forward a number of priorities/projects.

To line manage both clinical and non -clinical staff within the Podiatry service.

The post holder will provide specialist foot care for patients with diabetes/vascular conditions who have complex, high risk foot problems. This includes diabetes patients with acute and chronic foot wounds, neuropathic and vascular complications. The post requires accepting emergency referrals from GPs, community podiatrists and other health professionals and will provide responsive specialist care.

The post holder will be responsible for the planning anddelivery of education and up-skilling of clinical staff working across the organisation.

Main duties of the job

To line manage podiatry staff (including clerical and administrative) within the local team, ensuring that supervision, appraisal systems and professional development plans are in place for all team members.

To operationally manage the team's contribution to multi-disciplinary and uni-disciplinary working as appropriate.To co-ordinate local team objectives and projects and develop the teamservice plan in conjunction with the Podiatry Operational Lead and AcuteTherapies Service Leads.To have lead responsibility for developing projects within the team, defining parameters and to evaluate and report on progress.

To autonomously assess and diagnose patients with a diverse range of medical and podiatric conditions using appropriate up-to-date diagnostic techniques, skills and tools. To facilitate the implementation of NICE, national policies and evidence-based care. The post holder is expected to demonstrate clinical expertise in the care of patients referred to the service working a minimum of 75-80% of the time in the clinical environment. To create and implement treatment and specialised care plans primarily for patients with Diabetes and associated complications such as Chronic Neuropathy, Biomechanical compromise, Vascular Disease, Wound Management/Tissue Viability and other Chronic Diseases e.g. Rheumatoid Arthritis

Person Specification

Qualification/Education Essential

HPC registered Podiatrist Extensive experience of working in Tier 4 clinical area,experience at a management level managing people and/or resources Evidence of personal development/short courses/ service development

Non medical prescriber

Knowledge and Experience Essential

Excellent oral and written communication skills, report writing, presentation skills, Excellent organisational, planning and time management skills. Ability to work independently seeking supervision where appropriate Team working, proactive and flexible approach. Ability to delegate, effectively supervise and manage others under pressure

Desirable

Experience in ordering and managing stock levels

Skills, Abilities and Attributes Essential

Evidence of Team and MDT working in previous roles. Car driver/ Ability to work cross site regularly occasionally on the same day.
