Isle of Wight Hospital NHS Trust and Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust are excited to announce a permanent part time job opening for a Band 6 Chaplain. We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Chaplain to join and complement our existing Chaplaincy Team in providing appropriate empathetic, spiritual, pastoral, and religious care to our patients, their relatives and staff. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a very sensitive environment.
You will be joining a friendly and supportive team that work together to support patients and staff who are often dealing with difficult and challenging circumstance in their hospital journey. We value an active and visible presence of our Chaplaincy Team on our wards, ensuring that all patients and staff members have the opportunity to request and receive Chaplaincy support.This position requires candidates to be on-call as required. Additional payment will be provided for on-call duties performed outside of contractual hours.To qualify, you must be an ordained Anglican Priest, or a minister of a Free Church affiliated with Churches together in England, with at least two years of post-ordination experience.
Main duties of the job
1. To support the delivery of spiritual, pastoral and religious care to patients, relatives and staff with the chaplaincy team in line with national and local best practice guidelines.
2. To promote good communication and collaboration with all members of the team.
3. To be an active and visible presence on the wards and departments of the hospital.
4. To participate in provision of out of hours on call service.
5. As a member of the Patient Experience team actively contribute to the overall improvement of experience of care by people who use our services.

Job description Job responsibilities
1. To undertake appropriate duties as a Chaplain in the Chaplaincy Service; providing an out of hours on call service for the pastoral, spiritual, ethical and religious needs of patients, staff and visitors and, where applicable, students within the Trust. Under authority of the Head of Patient Experience, to work as part of the Chaplaincy Team, comprising of the Lead Chaplain, Chaplains, Chaplaincy Volunteers and Students.
2. To work as a Chaplain for the Trust to
Discern emotional and spiritual needs
Arrange appropriate response with available resources
Provide pastoral, religious, and spiritual support for patients, relatives and staff
To be a spiritual, pastoral and ethical religious resource
3. To conduct services of public worship or equivalent regularly in the Hospital, in accordance with their own religious tradition or belief system and ecumenically as required, and to administer faith community rites and to administer faith community rites and practices (or belief equivalent, including non-religious rites practices to patients on the wards, and to otherwise provide for people who are unable to remain in contact with their faith community. To serve the people of their own faith community if required. To conduct services including non-religious memorial services. To offer public prayer for the Trust on a daily basis.

Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
Degree (or equivalent experience) with demonstrable learning such as counselling, pastoral care, psychology, psychotherapy or theology. Endorsement to practice as a healthcare chaplain by a recognised/established sponsoring faith community or belief group (including non-religious beliefs)
