About this role

Job summary

We are seeking GPs with extended role (GPwER) to join Worcestershire Community Paediatric service. This is a new and exciting opportunity for enthusiastic and flexible candidates with innovative ideas to help diversify our skill mix and shape and compliment the service. You will work alongside an experienced team of paediatricians, therapists and nurses.

We provide a range of Community Paediatric services including management of children and young people with developmental delay, neurodevelopmental concerns, neurodisability and epilepsy as well as determining causes of hearing loss. We also contribute to services for children with special educational needs and children in care.

It is anticipated that the applicant will develop a specific role, subject to their experience and interest and dependent on the needs of the service. A programme of training and supervision will be developed in partnership with the successful candidates as required.

Main duties of the job

There are 2 substantive posts of 4 sessions (0.4 WTE or 16 hours) per week available but consideration will be given to other flexible arrangements that meet the needs of the applicant and the service. 2 sessions will be clinic sessions and 2 sessions will be corresponding admin time.

As part of the multidisciplinary team, you will provide medical assessment of children presenting to our service. Prior experience is desirable but not essential however an aptitude for a holistic approach to patients and ability to work as part of multidisciplinary team is required.

The postholder will be based at Covercroft Centre, Droitwich and will be expected to conduct clinics at various sites across Worcestershire.

Job description Job responsibilities

This post requires a general practitioner who has successfully attained their MRCGP qualification. In addition, the following is required:

An excellent clinician who can bring their General Practice expertise to the community paediatric service.

Ideally, experience of managing children with developmental concerns as part of their current or previous placements / jobs / rotations. This can be experience as part of GPVTS training.

Enthusiasm to develop their knowledge and skills in community paediatrics.

Is committed to team working in a multi-professional setting.

Understands the importance of audit and research in the continuing development of practice

Person Specification

Knowledge Essential

Detailed knowledge of the management of patients with complex medical presentations. Knowledge about the NHS and understanding the evidence base underpinning the delivery of high-quality services.

Desirable

In depth knowledge of principles of governance/audit.

Additional Criteria Essential

An aptitude for a holistic approach to patient management.

Qualifications Essential

Primary Medical Qualification MRCGP (or equivalent to gain entry to the national GP performers list) Entry on the GMC GP Register Full GMC registration with license to practice Eligible to work in the UK I understand that I will be asked to provide original certificates to verify my qualifications at point of offer.

Experience Essential

Experience of paediatrics at core trainee level or above Ability to prioritise workload effectively Safeguarding to at least level 3 competencies
