Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Thames Valley & Wessex Dental Team, Workforce, Training & Education Directorate, NHS Englandfor a Dental Foundation Training Programme Director (TPD) Early Years. The Dental Team ensures the effective organisation and delivery of Postgraduate Dental Education.
The TPD will be accountable to the Associate Postgraduate Dental Dean for Dental Foundation Training and hence to the Postgraduate Dental Dean, Thames Valley & Wessex.
They will have defined responsibility for the management of Foundation Dentists in training and the training programme.
Main duties of the job
Provide sessions (or agreed sessional commitment) of work for NHSE Attend and oversee all Dental Foundation study days of their allocated scheme at the relevant education training centres
When necessary, the local scheme NHSE TPD for Foundation will deliver education on Foundation study days. This will be agreed and directed by the Foundation Training Associate Dean and will be part of the contracted NHSE TPD sessional commitment
The days will run throughout the year, and every effort will be made to ensure fair access to practical skills and simulation facilities across Thames Valley & Wessex
Organise and facilitate regular case-based discussions at study day at the discretion of the Postgraduate Dean
In addition, commit to 30 study days at the scheme centre. When studies days are not taking place, the expectation is that the Associate Dean will have oversight of workload and commitments

To co-ordinate quality assessment and management of educational and clinical supervisors (trainers) relevant to the needs of DF training in a scheme as directed by the Associate Dean and Postgraduate Dental Dean To assist with the review of Educational Supervisors and training practices, including making practice visits and providing necessary reports, development and performance management of Dental Foundation trainers To liaise with Educational Supervisors (ESs) on a regular basis regarding the FDs progress towards working independently in NHS practice Ensure the trainers are up to date with the E-Portfolio Assist in monitoring the activities of ESs and training practices in conjunction with the Associate Dean to confirm that these are in line with NHSE, Dental Foundation Programme policies and guidance and COPDEND Quality Standards for Deaneries Hold regular scheme trainer meetings quarterly Hold performance meetings with each trainer on a 1:1 basis, including relevant paperwork and in line with NHSE document storage and data protection requirements Ensure that all trainers are aware of their performance and clearly understand reasons for suggested attendance at existing trainer performance review interview You can find further details about the role, including key responsibilities and accountabilities, alongside the organisational structure and person specification in the attached Job Description and other supporting documents.

Qualification and Training Essential
Primary dental qualification At least 5 years' experience as a registered dental practitioner Current active GDC Registration (without conditions past or present) Previous appointment as a Dental Foundation trainer, Programme Director or equivalent
Experience and Knowledge Essential
Previous experience and training in clinical and educational supervision to include Foundation Dentists
Desirable
Experience of educational leadership
