Job summary

The Logistics Technician (ECU Education) plays a vital operational support role within the Emergency Capabilities Unit, ensuring that all specialist equipment, vehicles, and resources are maintained, safe, and ready for use in training and emergency preparedness activities. The post holder is responsible for managing a fleet of vehicles and a wide range of specialist educational and operational equipment, ensuring they are fully functional, compliant with safety standards, and available for both planned training delivery and rapid deployment when required.

This role combines logistics coordination, technical equipment management, and operational support. Key duties include conducting safety checks, maintaining asset registers, coordinating stock control, and supporting procurement processes. The technician also ensures that all equipment is cleaned, decontaminated, and prepared to meet infection prevention and control standards.

Working closely with internal teams and external suppliers, the Logistics Technician provides specialist advice on logistics and equipment management, supports major incident exercises, and facilitates the movement of equipment across sites and nationally. The role involves hands-on physical work, including manual handling, warehouse operations, and driving vehicles (including larger vehicles where required).

Main duties of the job

As the department's Logistics Technician, you will be responsible for maintaining highly specialist educational equipment and a fleet of vehicles. Your role will include:

oBeing responsible for managing all EPRR vehicle safety checks and vehicle maintenance programmes.oInspecting and maintaining safety critical equipment and specialist equipment.oProviding specialist logistics advice to various internal user groups.oManaging equipment and vehicles in line with national Vehicle/Equipment Data Sheets.oFacilitating the movement of specialist logistics to locations throughout the ECU site and NationallyoManaging the cleaning and decontamination of specialist equipment.oUpdating and monitoring equipment inventories and maintaining an asset register.oCoordinating the availability of key specialist logistics Throughout the ECU site and NationallyoSupporting procurement processes and technical evaluations of new equipment.oSupporting the response to Major and Significant exercisesoEnsuring specialist equipment is ready for Educational Delivery and meets the needs of learners and tutors.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), maintained independently Full manual driving licence (no more than 3 penalty points) GCSE English and Maths C or above or 4-9 grades, Functional skills level 2, (or equivalent)

Experience Essential

1 year of driving experience Experience of driving larger vehicles, including an understanding of technical and operational matters relating to the use of a specialist vehicle. Practical experience of facility and equipment management. For ex ample, experience of stores / logistics / warehouse work Direct experience of managing technical matters relating to the storage and cleaning of equipment.

Knowledge and Skills Essential

Ability to relate to people from different backgrounds Ability to plan effective and efficient route Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, Office 365 and the use of online (cloud based) database software. Knowledge of stores / logistics
