Job summary

To act as deputy for the Senior Health & Safety Manager; Be responsible for providing health and safety management support to all operational sectors across the Trust and fulfil the role of a competent person in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974.) Provide professional advice, training and leadership to staff and Managers at sector and site level. Support the maintenance of the Trust's compliance with regulatory and statutory duties. Facilitate the development and implementation of robust health and safety strategies, delivery plans and systems within the Trust. To lead Datix incident reporting and analysis;

Main duties of the job

The focus for this role will be to support the health, safety and security function, as part of the Health & Safety team by leading and promoting a positive health and safety culture in order to engender and embed proactive and robust health and safety systems across the organisation, ensuring that the organisation meets its regulatory and statutory duties relating to health, safety and welfare Manage the Health & Safety Advisors (x3), develop PDR objectives, manage day to day work and ensure 1-2-1 meetings take place To develop, implement, monitor and review policies, procedures, guidance and initiatives, facilitating collaborative working, to raise awareness and foster a culture that encourages reporting, action and learning from violent and aggressive incidents;

Qualifications, Accreditations, Education Essential

Degree / Professional Qualification Degree / Professional Qualification ? A/I Qualified safety professional with relevant diploma (NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent) Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health or equivalent Level 3 training qualification (e.g. PTLLS or equivalent) ISO 45001 Audit Qualification or equivalent Evidence of Continuing Professional Development

Experience Essential

Significant experience of managing in the health and safety arena (post qualification) and preferably in the healthcare sector Experience of managing and driving health and safety initiatives at senior level within the NHS or a healthcare setting or within a multi-site/multi-disciplinary large organisation Detailed knowledge and ability to interpret and implement in a healthcare setting health and safety related legislation and guidance In-depth knowledge/experience of the principles and application of HS(G)65 (PDCA) management standards within an NHS provider setting Significant experience of working with multiple organisations and the ability to be intellectually flexible and to look beyond existing structures/boundaries, ways of working, to produce more effective and innovative service delivery and partnerships Managing the health and safety agenda upwards as well as across the organization Ability to assess, review and implement policy to ensure the highest level of practice is achieved

Knowledge and Skills Essential

Writing high quality and detailed reports and documents that convey highly complex information that may be highly sensitive or contentious Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills Detailed knowledge and ability to interpret and implement fire, health and safety legislation Proven ability to analyse complex problems and detailed information, and to develop and successfully implement practical and workable solutions to address them Ability to think and plan strategically, tactically and creatively, and to prioritise work programmes in the face of competing demands and priorities Skilled in the design, delivery and evaluations of relevant training and to lead on safety training programmes Ability to work with Projects team/contractors for new build or refurbishment projects Ability to lead and support managers in promoting a culture of managed health and safety Ability to manage upwards particularly when the issues are highly contentious and may convey messages that others don't want to hear Sound political judgment and astuteness in understanding and working with complex policy and the ability to interpret and relay this to a range of audiences Ability to be intellectually flexible and to seek answers beyond existing structures and boundaries Ability to collaborate constructively with internal and external partners to create the conditions for successful partnership working Ability to communicate highly complex information that may be difficult to understand or in an antagonistic atmosphere, to internal and external stakeholders, and make presentations to internal and external groups on a regular basis
