Job summary

Working under the supervision and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the healthcare assistant will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.

Main duties of the job

Phlebotomy Blood Pressure Monitoring ECG Recording Spirometry Hypertension Reviews Patient health checks including Learning Disabilities, Mental health and NHS health Checks Diabetic Foot Checks Vaccination and immunisation within HCA competencies Basic wound careEar Syringing Chaperoning duties Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs or nurses. Sterilising, cleansing and maintenance of surgical equipment. Vaccine or cold chain storage, monitoring and recording. Re-stocking and stock rotation of consumables Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms and trolleys Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions, including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to that individual. Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted. Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being.

Our multidisciplinary team consists of 5 GP Partners, 8 Salaried GPs, an Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP), Pharmacists, a Nursing Team, HCA and Phlebotomy Team, Clinical Administration Team, Patient Services Team, and Management Team.

The practice also hosts clinics for Community and PCN roles, including Midwives, First Contact Physiotherapists, Mental Health Practitioners, and Social Prescribers. In addition, we have strong links with the local community and voluntary sector organisations, supporting both mental health and wider social needs for our patients.

Job description Job responsibilities

We are looking for a Healthcare Assistant who is confident in delivering a range of clinical and patient support duties. You should have experience in phlebotomy, blood pressure monitoring, ECGs and spirometry, along with supporting chronic disease management including hypertension reviews, diabetic foot checks and NHS health checks. The role requires you to carry out vaccinations (within competency), basic wound care, and ear syringing, as well as assist clinicians during minor procedures. You will be responsible for processing laboratory samples, maintaining infection control standards, managing stock, and ensuring clinical rooms are prepared and well-equipped. You should also be comfortable supporting patients through chaperoning, promoting health and wellbeing, and undertaking delegated care tasks while contributing to accurate data collection.
