Main duties of the job

Work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team within the scope of the New Modern of care (NMOC), working with individuals within custody in order to address their needs. To be an integral part of the multidisciplinary team working creatively with patients to address various health & wellbeing issues and to actively engage in health promotion, reconnect as supported by the NMOC, including team daily referrals, tasks & apps. A lot of your time will be spent working with both groups & individuals on the house units or identified units in partnership with a more senior clinician. You will also work closely with prison personnel, third sector organisations & health and social care services within the prison estate in order to provide an integrative and effective New Modern of Care. Fully participate in &d co-deliver training, attend team Reflective Practice is also a key part of the role, as is facilitating a therapeutic culture & enrichment activities with identified individuals. To facilitate both a therapeutic culture & activities on the units including meetings, groups, contributing to case formulations & where appropriate, providing support to prison staff. Be responsible for helping operational staff to work in line with the NMOC, including a trauma informed way & should therefore embody the core principles of reflectiveness & trauma-informed practice, in their daily activities.

Job description Job responsibilities

Main tasks will include:

To work within the scope of the New Model of Care and undertake Early Days In Custody (EDic) assessments, including transfers and releases (reconnect and discharge clinic input).

To ensure all new arrivals to receive a brief assessment of individual presentation and need, referring patients on to other services (GP, SMS, chaplaincy, psychology etc) and book further assessment if indicated

To support the implementation of an integrated care approach and NMOC. Supporting staff to work in accordance with the New Model of Cares key principles, alongside operational staff.

Contribute to working within Units with identified individuals to creatively address both mental health and physical wellbeing, including Neurodevelopmental problems

To support assessments and interventions to individuals under the supervision of a qualified practitioner as appropriate to your level of competence and training.

To undertake clinically related administration and project work.

To liaise with other professional services and various stakeholders, including families, service users engagement and significant others as appropriate, sharing information where appropriate.

To work independently according to a plan agreed with a qualified practitioner and within the overall framework of the New Model of Care, including policies and procedures.

To assist in clinically related administration, conduct of audits, collection of statistics, development of audit and/or research projects, teaching and project work.

Person Specification

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS Essential

Either minimum NVQ level 3 supplemented by additional training equivalent to diploma level or ability to demonstrate significant relevant prior experience and on the job training working in a therapeutic environment equivalent to diploma level Holds an active NMC Nursing associate Pin Number

Desirable

Honours degree (or equivalent) in psychology, or other subject relevant to professional discipline. Training in delivering brief therapeutic interventions Further post-graduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, Occupational therapy, speech, language & communication therapy or mental health practice

PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE Essential

Evidence of working with people who have experienced a mental health difficulty Demonstrates high standards in written communication Able to write clear reports and letters An ability to empathise with people with Mental Health Problems and treat them with dignity and respect Ability to work on own and use initiative Able to manage time effectively Ability to develop working relationships with both staff and clients

Desirable

Experience of working in primary care services Experience of working in secondary care services Experience of working in a secure/prison environment Experience of managing own caseload and time Some knowledge of psychotherapeutic approaches and issues for working with people with mental health problems in prison

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES Essential

Excellent IT skills, verbal and written communication skills, including telephone skills Able to develop good therapeutic relationships with clients To be able to communicate effectively under pressure and maintain a high degree of professionalism at all times To be able to provide and receive complex sensitive or contentious information in a potentially highly emotive atmosphere. Received training (either formal of through experience) and carried out risk assessments within scope of practice Demonstrates a knowledge of the issues surrounding 'being in prison' and the impact it can have on mental and physical health Knowledge of trauma informed care and how it relates to people in prison Knowledge of CPA, Mental Health Act, MAPPA, legislation and policies relevant to prison mental health. Knowledge of the New Model of Care in prison settings
