About this role

Job summary The role of a Support Services Gardener is to provide grounds maintenance and gardening services, maintaining grounds, roads, and paths within all property of the organisation in order that they are kept in a safe and presentable condition, and will also contribute to the maintenance of the building fabric within the organisation.

Main duties of the job Ensure a clean external environment for patient care in accordance with health, safety and compliance requirements and NHS Property Services policies and procedures.

This will include trimming hedges, moving lawns, weeding paved surfaces and garden beds, pruning, planting, sewing seeds, litter picking, grass cutting, spray weed killing, road sweeping, clearing road gullies, clearing leaves, landscaping improvements, winter snow and ice clearing, gritting of roads and footpaths, transporting materials and green waste.

Use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when required

Ensure gardens, roads, pathways and drains are maintained and are safe and presentable.

Participate in the operation of planned maintenance schemes, inspection and gardening in accordance with agreed procedures.

Ensure all tools, machinery and equipment used in the delivery of duties is cleaned regularly and maintained in a safe manner to prevent danger, avoid injury and prevent damage to equipment. Report any defects or failures to the line manager.

Record any damage to building fabric and report immediately.

Ensure that all equipment and materials are used and stored safely in compliance with COSHH.

Follow and work from landscape drawings and manufacturers specifications with reference to the Team Leader when required.

We now have an exciting opportunity for a reliable and hardworking Gardner to join our team covering multiple healthcare sites across Cornwall. This is a fantastic role for someone who enjoys working outdoors, takes pride in maintaining high standards, and wants to contribute to creating welcoming, safe environments.

About the Role

As a Gardner, you will play a key role in maintaining the external environments across a number of NHS sites in central Cornwall, including Camborne, Redruth, St Austell, Falmouth, and surrounding areas. This is a mobile position where no two days are the same, and you will work as part of a small team to ensure all grounds are safe, clean, and well-presented.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will vary depending on seasonal needs and site requirements but will include tasks such as grass cutting, weeding, maintaining pathways, and supporting winter gritting activities.

Carrying out a wide range of gardening and grounds maintenance tasks across multiple sitesGrass cutting, weeding, pruning and general landscaping dutiesEnsuring roads, paths and external areas are clean, safe, and accessibleSupporting seasonal activities such as gritting during winter monthsWorking collaboratively with colleagues to maintain high standards across all locationsSafely using vehicles and equipment as required for the roleCan handle routine tasks and social interactions within a work environment. Ability to absorb policy and guidance necessary for the role.

Skills & Experience Previous experience in gardening, grounds maintenance or a similar outdoor roleFull UK driving licence (essential for travel between sites and operation of work vehicles)Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditionsGood teamwork and communication skillsA proactive and flexible approach to work

Where you'll be

This is a permanent, full-time mobile role covering multiple NHS sites across Cornwall. You will work 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 7:00am - 3:00pm.
