Job summary

We're looking for a Specialty Doctor to join our team of life savers and life changers who share our values to help us provide high quality care for the patients, carers, families and communities we serve. This is an exciting opportunity to join our Perinatal Mental Health Service as a full time Specialty Doctor on a 6-month fixed term contract.

Main duties of the job

Attendance at MDT meetings.

Attendance in team governance & service development processes.

Contribution to collaborative care and risk management planning processes for relevant patients' management, including regular liaison with practitioners within and outside of the service.

Provision of trauma informed, evidence based, specialist perinatal medical/psychiatric assessments and reviews, to inform care planning and risk assessment/management, by regular clinic sessions & flexible use of clinical time.

Formulation and delivery of appropriate, evidence based pharmacological and psychological interventions, sharing evidence in an accessible way with patients to support their choice of treatment, holding in balance the unique features and risks of the perinatal period.

Reflect on the multi-faceted and complex nature of PNMH difficulties, demonstrating a high degree of understanding about trauma, epigenetics, attachment, transitions to parenthood, parent-infant relationships, safeguarding, and infant development.

Assessment and management of people subject to the Mental Health Act.

Assessment and management of people subject to the Mental Capacity Act.

Completion of administrative tasks related to clinical & leadership responsibilities.

This appointment is for a full-time Specialty Doctor to join our Perinatal Mental Health Service.

This post is being offered as a 6-month fixed term contract.

Applicants must have at least four years postgraduate experience including two years within psychiatric services. The appointee will need to be S12 approved to fulfill contractual duties. If the applicant was not approved at the time of the interview, s/he must be fully eligible for approval.

Successful applicants will have office accommodation, with IT support for e-mail, internet access and secretarial support. The post holder will be issued with all required IT equipment including a laptop and mobile phone as well as any reasonable adjustments that may be required.

Person Specification

Knowledge and Skills Essential

Effective leadership skills Ability to deliver care in collaboration with service users and their families/carers Ability to supervise junior staff Awareness of the funding arrangements in the NHS and recent NHS developments Ability to interpret published research and to apply research findings to clinical practice.

Desirable

Experience of involvement in service development and/or reconfiguration Practical experience of research Sympathetic to the Trust's mission

Training and Qualifications Essential

MBBS or equivalent medical qualification. Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practice. Section 12 (2) MHA 1983 approved or eligibility for S12 approval.

Desirable

MRCPsych or equivalent. Training in evidence-based interventions Approved Clinician (AC) status/eligibility to be on the AC register

Experience Essential

2 years Foundation experience or equivalent. 2 years Core Psychiatry experience or equivalent. Experience of leading a multi-disciplinary team. Experience in teaching undergraduates and postgraduates. Experience in medical audit & understanding of clinical governance principles

Desirable

Experience of adult acute and crisis and/or psychiatric inpatient care A detailed knowledge of the Mental Health Act, the functions of the Mental Health Review Tribunals and Hospital Managers' Hearings Experience of writing reports of and attending Managers' Hearings and MHA Tribunals. Teaching/presentation experience (e.g., conference presentation, EBM, research experience) to a range of audiences. Experience networking and building collaborative working relationships across a range of stakeholders to improve patient care pathways and experience.
