Job summary

Applications are invited for the post of Clinical Fellow Core (ST1-ST2)/Higher (ST3-5) in Emergency Medicine at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

This post is available from 05 August 2026 until 02 February 2027 with the possibility of extending after that time by mutual agreement.

The Emergency Department (ED) at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is the biggest in the region seeing over 130,000 patients a year. The hospital is the Major Trauma Centre for the East of England region covering a wide geographical population and 12 other District hospitals.

There is access to all hospital specialties and all investigative facilities including Ultrasound within the ED. There is extended supervision and training with Consultant presence from 08:00-03:00 and 24/7 Trainee shop-floor presence.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will be treated like all other Trainees within the Emergency Department. They will be assigned an Educational Supervisor and will be able to attend the monthly departmental teaching program. Experience gained in these posts could be counted in future towards training applications through the CESR-CP pathway.

Full Registration and a Licence to Practice with the General Medical Council at time of application is required.

The applicant must have demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English that enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in the GMC's Good Medical Practice (2013). Completion of Foundation Competencies and experience of working in Emergency Medicine Comfortable dealing with a range of general emergency admissions A minimum of 6 months NHS experience employed at Foundation level or above

Desirable

Experience of providing clinical advice and support to junior colleagues MRCEM or equivalent ATLS/ALS/APLS
