Job summary

The Cancer Services team at West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking to recruit a full time Clinical Nurse Specialist to join the Haematology Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist Team on a fixed term basis for 9 months.

The hours are Monday to Friday - 37.5 hours per week.

We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated individual to support the delivery of high quality, critical patient centred care for patients with a haematological cancer diagnosis.

Main duties of the job

You will provide high quality holistic care, treatment, education, health promotion and well-being to both in patients and out-patients with a haematological cancer diagnosis supporting them throughout their care and treatment, whilst supporting their families and carers. In addition, you will be a core member of the Haematology Cancer MDT and work closely with the Helen Donald Unit.

Person Specification

Education and qualifications Essential

First level RGN registration Teaching qualification eg ENB 998 or extensive experience. Educated to Degree Relevant post registration qualifications in oncology / palliative care. Evidence of recent professional development.

Desirable

Educated or working towards Masters level. Clinical Examination Module at Level 6/7 or willingness to work towards. Psychological support training at level 2. Advanced communication skills training Understanding of the ACCEND programme.

Knowledge Essential

Working in the health care sector with staff management experience. Up-to-date knowledge of cancer. Understanding of the cancer patient and carer issues and their role in service improvement. Knowledge and understanding of Achieving World Class. Cancer outcomes: A Strategy for England 2015-2020. Understanding of the NHS Cancer Plan. Experience of working across a variety of care settings. Evidence of innovation/change management. Understanding of the Key worker role.

Knowledge of commissioning procedure

Experienc Essential

Experience of caring for patients with cancer / Oncology/Palliative care need Experience of working as a Band 6 Teaching/educating of Nurses and patients. Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills. Highly developed interpersonal skills with an ability to inspire and motivate teams Ability to work with multi professional/ cultural organisations, across organisational boundaries. Demonstrates advanced clinical skills in managing complex care situations. Wide range of experience in providing multi-disciplinary education within the specialist field. Experience of undertaking and applying research, audit to deliver the clinical governance agenda. Practical experience of participating in change / developing practice, project management IT skills

Desirable

Proven experience of Change management. Experience of implementing research and audit programmes/ surveys.
