Job summary

We are excited to offer the opportunity for a Highly Specialised Cardiac Physiologist to complement our team here at University Hospitals Dorset.

We are extremely proud of our passionate and dedicated Cardiac Physiology team. We perform a wide range of invasive and non-invasive cardiac procedures including complex device implant and follow up, Electrophysiology, simple and complex PCI, Echocardiography, exercise tolerance testing and ambulatory monitoring and analysis. We are constantly striving to improve and expand our services, which in turn keeps our team members challenged, engaged and motivated. We support the training and development of our staff in order to ensure a high clinical standard throughout the team.

The Royal Bournemouth Hospital and Poole Hospital are both situated in the beautiful county of Dorset and are perfectly positioned between miles of golden sandy beaches and the picturesque New Forest National Park. This role requires BSc in Cardiac Physiology or BTEC HNC or equivalent.

Base Location: Royal Bournemouth Hospital (with some cross site working at Poole Hospital required)

Interview Date: 8th/ 9th July 2026

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will have extensive experience in working within Cardiac Rhythm Management. This will include the implant and follow-up of all simple and complex brady and tachy devices. They will be enthusiastic about providing in-house training and passionate about improving patient centred care. The post is for a full time position however part time applicants will be considered.

Job description Job responsibilities

The successful candidate will have their BHRS accreditation or equivalent and be able to work independently in all areas of Cardiac Rhythm Management. As this is a senior role, the successful candidate will have managerial responsibilities within the service, as required, and will need to be actively involved in the training of junior cardiac physiologists and healthcare science students and apprentices.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

BSc in Cardiac Physiology or equivalent Highly specialist knowledge of Clinical Physiology in at least one area to Masters level or equivalent (e.g. have or be working towards BHRS/IBHRE/EHRA accreditation).

Experience Essential

Experience as a post registration Cardiac Physiologist Experience in the implantation and follow-up of complex pacing and ICD devices to include Biventricular optimisation Will be an independent practitioner in all types of device implantation and follow up

Previous experience of clinical audit and appraisals.

Language Essential

Be able to speak English as necessary to undertake the role

Will be able to work as part of a team but be dynamic and self-motivated Willing to train junior members and other disciplines Model good behaviour and acceptable ways of communicating and challenge inacceptable behaviour Confident at liaising with medical staff/ technical/ nursing staff and managers
