About this role

Job summary

We are looking for a motivated and professional Receptionist to provide front-line administrative support across the Emergency Department and Acute Medical Units. You will be the first point of contact for patients, relatives, and visitors, delivering a courteous, compassionate, and efficient service within a busy and sometimes challenging environment.

Key responsibilities include patient registration, maintaining accurate records, responding to telephone and face-to-face enquiries, and supporting clinical staff to ensure the smooth flow of patients through emergency and acute care pathways.

The role requires excellent communication and organisational skills, the ability to remain calm under pressure, and a strong commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care.

Main duties of the job

You will work on the front line within a busy and often challenging environment, interacting with patients, relatives, and staff on a daily basis. You will be expected to provide a friendly, efficient, and professional service at all times, while remaining calm and composed under pressure.

You will be responsible for ensuring that accurate patient information is recorded and maintained across a range of IT systems. The role involves responding to a variety of queries, both face-to-face and via telephone, and supporting the smooth running of the department.

You must be highly motivated, with excellent communication, interpersonal, and administrative skills. Acute Medicine is committed to supporting staff development and will provide opportunities to enhance your existing skills through a range of training programmes tailored to your needs.

This is a permanent post. Shifts are 11.5 hours in duration and are worked over a 24/7 rota, including days, nights, weekends, and bank holidays. As the role covers all shift patterns, flexibility is essential.
