Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Surgery Care Practitioner to join our Gynaecology team based at Colchester Hospital. This is an additional role to a team of one established SCP. This role will work with consultant and SPR bodies, in high tech laparoscopic and robotic theatres.

This is band 8a, full time -37.5 hours per week, fixed term role until 31st March 2027
Main duties of the job
Act to protect and promote patient safety at all times Provision of nurse-led service for patients undergoing urological procedures Be responsible for conducting diagnostic and treatments such as flexible cystoscopy, prostate biopsy and lithotripsy in Day surgery or Outpatient setting Maintain current awareness of all developments in endoscopic urology and the implications this may have in all aspects of patient care, resulting in the development and updating of ongoing education programmes for staff Participate in the Consent process of patients undergoing urological procedures, following guidelines from the GMC and Local Trust Assess patients on the waiting list for suitability for type of hospital stay within agreed protocols Monitor, compile operating lists both inpatient and day cases Liaise with Medical, Theatre, ward and clerical staff on relevant issues including Theatre lists, to support coherent service provision

Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
Registered Nurse First Level Post registration qualifications relevant to speciality First degree
Desirable
Teaching qualification Master's degree (or working towards. If not acquired-willing to undertake) Consultation & Diagnostics Module- level 7 Non Medical Prescribing qualification Surgical assistant Qualification (N77 or ASP course.)
Experience Essential
Proven post registration experience Experience at band 7 level Experience of GI surgical nursing Mentoring Evidence of managing and improving the patient experience Experience in research and audit
Desirable
Experience of performing aspects of surgery
Knowledge Essential
Good understanding of GI surgical pathways Good understanding of legal and ethical implications of being an SCP Knowledge and understanding of Clinical Governance Awareness of SCP role and its position within Multidisciplinary team
