Gateshead Talking Therapies is an award-winning Talking Therapies service and one of the highest performing Talking Therapies services at both regional and national level. There is recognition that staff can realise their potential through effective clinical and management supervision, managerial support, and through access to internal and external training. Staff development and their wellbeing are accepted as a vital priority, and we have a long-established Wellbeing Strategy Group which develops wellbeing initiatives for the service. You will provide interventions as part of Talking Therapies which will involve various therapeutic models including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
Main duties of the job
The Primary Care Mental Health Worker will have:
Professional qualification such as Dip SW, RMN, O.T., Teacher, or Qualified Accredited Counsellor / Therapist at Level 5 Understanding of Common Mental Health Problems and their impact on social functioning and physical health. Understanding of at least one brief psychological and/or psychosocial intervention and the development of positive mental health. A commitment to the recovery model of mental health and service user and carer involvement A commitment to a holistic model of mental health and working with partners to address client need. Experience of working with people who experience mental health problems especially depression and anxiety. Skills in assessment and interventions for clients with common mental health problems and consultation and supervision with primary care colleagues

1. Job Purpose
The post holder will be part of Gateshead Talking Therapies. They will work with adults who have a range of common mental health problems in primary care providing medium level interventions which will include Counselling and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. They will use traditional and innovative treatment methods
The post holder will work with people with different cultural backgrounds and ages using interpreters when necessary and should be committed to equal opportunities.

Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
Professional qualification such as Dip SW, RMN, O.T., Teacher, or Qualified Accredited Counsellor / Therapist at Level 5. Training in a psychological or psychosocial intervention.
Skills & Knowledge Essential
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Good organisational skills and ability to work autonomously. Knowledge and understanding of the recovery approach to Mental Health. Able to engage people who have experienced a range of mental disorders. Ability to challenge inequality and oppressive practice. Basic Microsoft Office IT skills. An ability to work in time-limited model that encourages focused intervention and disengagement.
Experience Essential
Experience of working in community settings with people experiencing a range of mental health difficulties.
Desirable
Experience of working in statutory and voluntary mental health services.
Physical Skills Essential
Must have an ability to visit a variety of sites within South Tyneside.
