Job summary JOB TITLE:Community Adult Psychiatry Specialty Doctor - Mellmead House CONTRACT:10 Programmed Activities (10 PAs)

This post is for a community adult psychiatry Specialty Doctor floating position in Redbridge covering the walk-in service for patients from Mental Wellness Teams North, South, and West, and cover vacancy, sickness and other leave of middle grade doctors within the Wellness teams. This is based at Mellmead House, 4 Orchard Close, Rodney Road, Wanstead, Redbridge, E11 2DH.

Rationale for post: This is a new post that has been created to manage the assessment of patients who attend the MHWTs for urgent assessment and to cover Specialty Doctor absences in the directorate. A lot of transformation has taken place already and continues to take place in Redbridges adult mental health services over the past few years. This is a flexible post which provides very good experience of Wellness teams. We wish to recruit fixed term to this post as soon as possible.

This is a new, fixed-term contract for 12 months, full-time post - 10 Programmed Activities (PAs) post with 8 Direct Clinical Contact activities (DCC) and 2 Supporting Professional Activities (SPAs).

Main duties of the job The post does not currently include on call responsibilities. If Section 12 approved, there is an expectation that the post holder will join a rota for all Section 12 approved doctors in the Trust to be available for assessments of patients detained under Section 136 of the Mental Health Act, during normal working hours. This will entail being available to attend the Section 136 suite at Goodmayes Hospital on approximately 3 days per year.

The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team providing care to adults with mental health needs who are registered with a GP Practice located in the northern part of the London Borough of Redbridge (plus a small number of patients who reside in that part of the Borough but whose GP is elsewhere).

The successful candidate will provide senior medical support to the team, and direct input on clinical cases. Together with other consultants, the postholder will be expected to provide guidance and supervision to the team, work directly with adult people (and their families), and liaise as appropriate with other external adult mental health providers, and acute hospitals.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

Inclusion in, or eligibility for inclusion in the Specialist Register for Psychiatry or within 6 months of obtaining CCT

Desirable

Inclusion in the specialist register for Old Age Psychiatry specifically

Experience Essential

Mastery in the management of a broad range of mental disorders in older adults

Desirable

An awareness of NHS strategic and clinical governance priorities.
