Job summary

The Therapies department at Ipswich Hospital are looking for an enthusiastic and motived individual who enjoys working as part of a team with a willingness to be flexible to meet the needs of the service to join our equipment team.

You will have excellent communication skills with colleagues, patients, families, carers and external services providers. The role is an integral part of our therapy equipment service at Ipswich Hospital. You will be supporting the inpatient therapy teams with equipment provision both to the wards and in the community therefore a full UK driving licence, ability to travel across Suffolk is essential as well as being able to fit equipment in patients homes such as toileting equipment and raising chairs/bed (for example).

This opportunity is for 1 year fixed term, working 0.8 WTE. The preferred working pattern will be offered at either of the below:30 hrs - 0900 - 1530 (30 mins lunch) 5 days a week30 hrs - 08:30 - 15:00 (30 mins lunch) 5 days a week

Main duties of the job

To assist in the management of the on-site equipment service, including tasks as delegated by the Therapy Assistant Practitioner or by clinical staff based on clinical demand. Collecting and delivering required stock to patients on the wards in a timely way to ensure timely discharge from hospital. To transfer, deliver, position, or fit the required equipment in patient's home, using the provided pool vehicles whilst meeting all health and safety requirements to protect self, colleagues, patients and carers (including lone working). To undertake required/requested duties under the guidance and responsibility of a qualified member of staff, reporting any problems or changes to the responsible clinician immediately. To receive and check all items delivered from the external equipment provider on regular delivery days and maintain store areas to comply with health and safety policy. To monitor stock levels for all equipment in the store and initiate action to address if stock levels drop to an unacceptable level. To assist with home visits (with therapists or technicians) as requested, to include the collection/delivery of all stock and equipment as required. To assist with the loading and unloading of equipment into vehicles as required. To assist registered staff with in patient ward based therapy interventions as a second pair of hands when demand and capacity allow.

Person Specification

Experience Essential

Experience of working with members of the public Relevant life skills gained through work/personal experience

Desirable

Experience of working in Occupational/Physiotherapy Relevant employment or voluntary work within health/social care/community

Qualifications Essential

Secondary education Numeracy and literacy skills Current driving license

Desirable

Relevant NVQ level 3 or equivalent Care Certificate

Knowledge Essential

Demonstrate an empathetic approach to patients / carers Willingness to undertake competency training Good communication skills, both written and verbal Health and Safety and risk awareness
