About this role

Job summary An exciting opportunity is available for a motivated post-FY2 doctor to join a unique clinical and research fellowship in Inherited Metabolic Medicine (IMD) and ENT at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. This post offers exposure to the management of rare metabolic disorders, ENT manifestations of inherited diseases, difficult airway assessment, multidisciplinary airway planning, and translational clinical research. The successful candidate will contribute to innovative projects including airway assessment and 3D airway modelling in patients with Mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS), outcomes research in primary hyperparathyroidism, and hearing studies in Alstrm syndrome.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will contribute to:

*Research into difficult airway assessment in patients with Mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS), including development of patient-specific airway passports and support for 3D airway modelling/printing.

*Analysis of informatics data relating to Primary Hyperparathyroidism, with focus on surgical treatment outcomes and associated clinical parameters.

*Support the analysis of hearing parameters in patients with Alstrm syndrome.

*Attendance at ENT operating theatres, including parathyroid surgery, to support trainees' specialty development.

*Participation in Trust governance, teaching, and professional development.

The fellowship is ideal for trainees considering a career in ENT, Metabolic Medicine, Academic Medicine, or a future MD/PhD, and provides opportunities for publications, national and international presentations and development of surgical and research skills.

Essential requirements:

*MBBS or equivalent medical qualification

*Full GMC registration with licence to practise

*Completion of Foundation Training (or equivalent)

*Published paper in peer reviewed journal as lead author

Duration: 7 months, with potential extension.
