About this role

Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic person to join our immunology team, who will assist with the daily maintenance and sample analysis in Autoantibodies and Allergy. To follow Standard Operating Procedures relating to each section/area.

***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***

Main duties of the job

To assist with the daily maintenance and sample analysis in Immunology.

To follow Standard Operating Procedures relating to each section/area/

To make and receive routine telephone calls to/from GPs, medical, nursing and other healthcare staff.

To prepare biological material collected from patients, including blood samples for analysis and analyse these following a standard operating procedure.

To assist Autoantibodies and Allergy as and when required with the receipt of samples, sample preparation, request data entry and to make and receive telephone calls from other healthcare staff.

Job description Job responsibilities

1. Receive, check, and process samples ensuring correct patient identification, appropriate sample type, and volume.

2. Prepare samples for analysis (e.g. centrifugation, aliquoting, barcoding).

3. Identify and escalate non-compliant samples in line with SOPs.

4. Record and communicate rejected samples appropriately.

5. Prioritise urgent and routine samples effectively.

6. Ensure samples are stored appropriately and safely.

7. Load/unload samples and manage workflow on analysers.

8. Operate analysers and assist in performing diagnostic tests.

9. Maintain analyser performance and workflow efficiency.

10. Perform basic maintenance and equipment checks.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

GCSE's 9-4 (A-C) in Maths & English and NVQ level 2 in either business administration or laboratory-based subject or equivalent demonstrable experience

Knowledge & Experience Essential

Understanding of need for patient confidentiality Proven knowledge of Health & Safety issues Demonstrable experience with basic IT equipment

Desirable

Knowledge of ISO standards/COSHH awareness. Proven technical skills in a Pathology laboratory

Aptitude & Abilities Essential

Excellent communication skills, being able to deal with staff and patients Ability to prioritise work Attention to detail Accuracy Time management skills
