Responsible for implementation of effective quality neonatal care to infants requiring Special Care, under the supervision of the registered nurse, following a holistic family centred model of practice
***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***
Main duties of the job
Undertakes direct patient care to infants requiring Special Care within the scope of N.N.E.B diploma qualification or equivalent, under the supervision of a trained nurse Competent in the use of specific medical devices required for the provision of special care Contributes to resource management of the NICU/TCW

Clinical
Under the supervision of a trained nurse take responsibility for individual patient care as allocated by thenurse in charge Undertake the following procedures/ activities for babies and families requiring special care - Implement & evaluate the agreed plan of care, review and update plan accordingly
Demonstrate an understanding of, assess, evaluate care in relation to infant hygiene, nutritional care, thermoregulatory carE, monitoring and undertake associated practical aspects within sphere ofresponsibility. Carry out daily checks and cleaning of specialised equipment used for infant feeding. Support and assist mothers in breast-feeding/expressing. Care for stable infants receiving both high and low flow oxygen including associated monitoring Care for infants with neonatal abstinence syndrome Report any changes in the infants condition to relevant personnel, and implement changes and evaluatecare as directed Participate in wards rounds Act as second checker for specified oral medications Ensure nurseries are adequately stocked Act as an advocate, liaise, report and document any relevant nursing or social issues to the registerednurse Demonstrate a basic understanding and practice of Child Protection including legislation and proceduresand attend social care meetings as required. Engage and interact effectively with carers, encouraging them to be actively involved in planning anddelivering care to their infant, facilitating complete transfer of care. Take a primary role in planning, family education and preparation for discharge. Undertake parent IBLS training. Documentation of all care provided, (ensure all entries are countersigned by a trained member of staff) ? Undertake transfer of infants care to other wards, the Neonatal Outreach team and discharge to the community.

Knowledge & Experience Essential
Proven evidence of personal or professional development Demonstrable experience of working with parents & families Demonstrable experience in the use of computers Recent demonstrable experience working with infants within a Special Care Baby Unit

Interest & academic proven ability to undertake further training within the speciality of neonatal nursing
Qualifications Essential
NVQ 3 or equivalent qualification in relevant subject or demonstrable experience

NNEB Diploma/NVQ 4 or equivalent qualification NNEB Advanced Practice Computer Literate (ECDL)
