Job summary
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Cardiothoracic Physiotherapist to lead and deliver high-quality physiotherapy care across cardiothoracic critical care, theatre recovery, cardiothoracic surgical and cardiology wards within the Essex Cardiothoracic Centre. This is an exciting role within the multidisciplinary team, where advanced clinical expertise, leadership, and service development skills will be essential.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for:
assessment, treatment, and management of patients with complex acute cardiology conditions, as well as patients pre/post cardiac and thoracic surgerymanagement of patients with acute and chronic respiratory conditionsprovision of specialist input in the critical care environment, supporting patients with ventilation, secretion clearance, rehabilitationprovision of specialist physiotherapy input on cardiology and cardiothoracic wards, supporting patients with chest clearance, rehabilitation, post-operative exercise/advice and complex discharge planningdelivery of prehabilitation services to patients waiting cardiac surgery
clinical supervision and support of junior staff, including contribution to teaching and training
Line management of junior therapy staff and students (including attendance, performance, disciplinary management)
support service evaluation and improvement initiatives
ensure delivery of evidence-based practice and contribute to service excellence across the cardiothoracic physiotherapy pathway
deputise for Integrated Therapy Lead as required

Qualifications Essential
Diploma/Degree in Physiotherapy HCPC registration Evidence of post-graduate study
Desirable
Member of specialist interest group Relevant post graduate qualification/evidence of Masters level study
Knowledge & Experience Essential
Broad post-graduate physiotherapy experience Significant post-graduate experience in cardiothoracic care, including respiratory and critical care Experience of supervising staff and students Experience of participation in broad range of service development initiatives
Desirable
Experience of implementing QI projects Experience of leading/managing a team
Communication Essential
Ability to present information both verbally & non-verbally in clear and concise manner Experience of teaching/presenting to therapy staff/students and MDT Ability to work as part of a team with multi-professional staff & with a diverse patient group
Desirable
Experience of presenting at conference/specialist interest groups/outside organisations
