Job summary
We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for a motivated and enthusiastic doctor to join our team as a Senior Clinical Fellow in General and Specialist Medicine at Ashford and St Peter's Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This 12-month fixed-term post is ideally suited to clinicians at CT3/ST3 level (or above) who are looking to further develop their skills in acute and general medicine within a supportive and dynamic environment.
Based primarily at St Peter's Hospital, the role provides exposure to a broad and diverse case mix across acute and specialist medical services. You will join a forward-thinking department with access to modern facilities, including Clinical Assessment Unit and Same Day Emergency Care service, enabling you to play a key role in delivering efficient, high-quality patient care.
This post offers an excellent platform to enhance your clinical expertise, gain leadership and supervisory experience, and contribute to service development through audit and quality improvement work. You will be part of a collaborative multidisciplinary team committed to achieving the highest standards of care for patients in the local community.
Main duties of the job
Participate in the General Medicine on-call rota (full shift pattern). Conductdaily ward rounds and provide inpatient care for a diverse range of acute medical patients. Supervise and support junior doctors, including foundation trainees. Work collaboratively within themultidisciplinary team (MDT) to deliver safe, effective care. Maintainaccurate clinical documentation and ensure effective communication with GPs and other services. Contribute toaudit, quality improvement, and service development initiatives.

Deliver high-quality assessment and ongoing management of acutely unwell adult medical patients. Support the effective running of wards and clinical areas, ensuring patient safety and flow. Practice in line with GMC standards, Trust policies, and clinical guidelines. Engage in teaching, training, and mentoring of junior staff and contribute to a positive learning environment. Maintain up-to-date clinical knowledge and participate in continuing professional development. Demonstrate flexibility by providing cross-cover and supporting service needs across sites. Actively contribute to achieving Trust objectives, quality standards, and service improvement goals.
Person Specification
Experience Essential
Significant experience in acute and general internal medicine, including managing unselected medical take Demonstrable NHS experience and participation in GIM on-call rotas
Skills Essential
Ability to prioritise clinical need and deliver safe, high-quality patient care under pressure Strong communication and teamworking skills, with the ability to supervise and support junior staff
Qualifications Essential
MBBS or equivalent recognised medical qualification Full MRCP (UK) or equivalent Advanced Life Support certification or equivalent
Leadership Essential
Leadership & Management Demonstrates initiative in service improvement, audit, and quality improvement activities, contributing to better patient outcomes
