Job summary
West Suffolk Professionals (WSP) are responsible for the recruitment, management and retention of all temporary staff within the West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust.
We are currently looking to recruit an experienced Bank Band 5/6 Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician who can support our existing Pharmacy team as a temporary worker for a period of up to 3 months.
You will need to have the Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technicianqualification, be registered with the GPhC as a Pharmacy Technician and demonstrate recent experience of working in hospital or retail pharmacy.
Final banding and salary (per annum, pro rata) will be awarded, dependant upon experience.
Please note that West Suffolk Professionals are not able to support sponsorship roles as we cannot offer guaranteed hours on Bank.
Main duties of the job
The Trust delivers services to patients seven days a week and aims to provide equality of treatment and outcome regardless of the day of the week.
The core hours for the pharmacy department are usually worked between 08.30 and 17.00, Monday - Friday, rostered by the department.
There may be scope for extra Bank cover for late shifts: 10.00-18.30 and weekend shifts: 09.00-17.00, Saturday and Sunday. with weekends and late shifts allocated on a rostered basis.

Job description Job responsibilities
KEY TASKS:
Dispensary
Dispense prescribed items for in-patients, patients awaiting discharge and out-patients, in accordance with standard operating procedures. This will include, but is not limited to, controlled drugs, unlicensed medication, cytotoxic medication, medication for clinical trials and high-cost drugs. As an accredited accuracy checking pharmacy technician (ACPT), complete the final accuracy check for dispensed items (clinically screened by a pharmacist) against inpatient requests, discharge prescriptions and outpatient prescriptions, safely handing the latter out to patients with appropriate counselling. Utilise the electronic prescribing system (e-Care) within scope of job remit and use the pharmacy computer system (CMM) to maintain accurate patient records and information regarding supplies thepharmacy department have made. Query prescription anomalies and potential supply problems with relevant clinical staff. Undertake patient medication counselling and provide advice on medicines to patients, carers and healthcare professionals as required, within the dispensary environment. This will include selling over the counter (OTC) medicines to the public and offering advice under the supervision of a pharmacist. Provide information to patients, carers and other healthcare professionals as required. Undertake effective stock rotation, expiry date checking, appropriate storage of medicines in the dispensary environment and close communication with the procurement team to organise supply of urgent medication if not immediately available. Assist the dispensary manager to ensure workflow, staffing levels and skill mix is adequate for service provision within the dispensary. Undertake dispensing and accuracy checking of controlled drugs, ensuring accurate records are maintained through use of the Omnicell Automated Drug Cabinets (ADC) and Med X electronic controlled drugs register. Ensure controlled drug stock discrepancies are rectified in a timely manner. Assist in daily dispensary housekeeping tasks as required by the dispensary manager. Attend relevant training courses as appropriate. Assist in the training of Pharmacy staff and other professional staff as required. Assist with inductions and training of Pre-registration trainee pharmacy technicians, junior pharmacy technicians and other staff as appropriate. Keep up to date with all relevant mandatory training as required by the Trust. Contribute to the effectiveness of the pharmacy department and its services by providing suggestions for innovation and development and upholding the Pharmacy department team charter. Health, Safety and Security
Report any incidents/accidents and near misses in accordance with the Trusts incident reporting procedure. To be aware and comply with policies and procedures relating to Health and Safety/COSHH issues regarding handling of potentially hazardous materials. Comply with all Trust policies and procedures to protect the health, safety, and welfare of self and anyone affected by the Trusts business. Comply with the Trusts Risk Management Strategy and Directorate/Department health and safety policies and procedures. Ensure that equipment and facilities provided for the protection of health and safety is well-maintained, used appropriately and defects reported to relevant senior staff. Comply with emergency procedures e.g. resuscitation, evacuation, and fire precaution procedures. Comply with the requirements of mandatory training. Additional Duties
Receptionist duties, when necessary, including dealing with internal and external customers, receiving cash and debit/credit cards for payment, operating the dispensary till and confirming exemption where necessary. To ensure that statutory requirements are always met and to implement Trust policy as directed by the Chief Pharmacist. Maintain professional registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) as a registered pharmacy technician. Maintain appropriate Continuing Professional Development (CPD) records as required by the GPhC. Act as an ambassador for the pharmacy service at West Suffolk Hospital. To give professional advice on pharmaceutical matters to medical, nursing and other professional staff or refer requests when necessary to the appropriate pharmacist. Person Specification
Education and Qualifications Essential
BTEC Pharmaceutical Science NVQ Level 3 or equivalent. Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician qualification. Registered with the GPhC as a Pharmacy Technician.
Experience and Knowledge Essential
Recent experience of working in hospital or retail pharmacy. Experience of dealing with members of the public. Computer literacy of standard MS Office applications
Desirable
Supervisory skills. Knowledge of pharmacy based computer systems.

Skills and Abilities Essential
Experience of dealing with members of the public and other health care workers in a professional manner. Ability to supervise Pharmacy Assistants and other staff as appropriate. Have an all-round knowledge of the technical aspects of hospital pharmacy and a broad outlook of pharmaceutical issues. Able to work closely and in liaison with co workers within the department. Manage time effectively. Ability to travel to all rural location to meet the needs of the role. Attention to detail. Able to make decisions.
Desirable
Familiar with standard IT software/hardware.
