Job summary

If so, then an opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and motivated Cardiac Physiologist to join the Physiology team at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UH Bristol & Weston).

The role will be based at the Bristol Heart Institute, a purpose built facility for the diagnosis and treatment of Cardiac disease. We are the regional centre of ACHD patients taking referrals from Wales and the South West of England. We provide a full range of invasive cardiology services including 24-hour primary PCI, CTO, Shockwave and Impella cases.

Our Devices and EP services include ICD/CRT and leadless implant and follow up, with physiologist-led ILR implant , PVI and VT ablations using all the latest 3D mapping systems. We are a leading centre for TAVI implantation, implantation of Mitra Clip and PFO closure devices.

Our Cardiology department currently includes 5 Cardiac catheter labs and one hybrid lab shared with Cardiac Surgery . This is a busy centre, with high case volumes which offers significant opportunity for career development and learning opportunities.

We also welcome applications from student Physiologists hoping to qualify in 2026.

Main duties of the job

A degree in Clinical physiology, Healthcare Science - Physiological Sciences or equivalent is essential; IBHRE or BHRS accreditation will be a distinct advantage. All applicants must be eligible for UK State registration as a Cardiac Physiologist, through either RCCP, ACHS or via the HCPC register.

This position may suit either a newly qualified Cardiac Physiologist or an already established Cardiac Physiologist looking to step up to the challenge of working within a busy tertiary Cardiac Centre.

To undertake a full range of cardiac investigations within a regional tertiary service for cardiology and maintains associated patient records in line with local policies.

Works or is working towards independent practice without medical supervision in exercise tests and in pacemaker and ICD follow up clinics.

Works or is working towards independent practice in all aspects of cardiology both non-invasive and invasive and including on call. This includes the ACHD service and routine electrophysiology studies.

Provide training and clinical supervision to students, assistant grades and other healthcare professional as deemed necessary.

Qualifications and Training Essential

Btec, Htec MPPM or degree in Clinical physiology or equivalent

Desirable

State Registration CPD - short courses evidence

Knowledge and Experience Essential

Experience with full range of non-invasive and invasive cardiology procedures to include biventricular and ICD implants

Desirable

ICD troubleshooting course relevant short courses Teaching and training Research and development activity

Skills and Abilities Essential

Demonstrates good teamworking skills within multidisciplinary team Demonstrates patient centric care Good IT skills and experience with common NHS digital applications

Aptitudes Essential
