An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital Breast Care Service for an enthusiastic and committed individual to join the existing team of 6 Clinical Nurse Specialists. The trust is part of the Breast Surgery Specialty Clinical Network incorporating both the James Paget and Queen Elizabeth hospitals.
We are a dynamic and dedicated team of Breast Clinical Nurse Specialists who work within a multidisciplinary specialty. The Boudicca Breast Unit is a very busy department, seeing more than 700 breast cancer patients a year.
As Clinical Nurse Specialists, we work autonomously, as well as collaboratively, and aim to develop, implement and evaluate our service to achieve the highest standard of clinical care.
Contact and care commence at pre-diagnosis, through diagnosis, treatment options, follow up and survivorship. We are a service that is continually evolving to address the changing needs of our patients.
Main duties of the job
To act as a resource to all colleagues within the Trust and Community in the delivery of care to breast cancerpatients. To participate in mentoring, supervision and continuing education for nurses/AHCP in training andpost registration, both in hospital and community
To provide information and continuing support to women and men and their families who have breast cancer,throughout the duration of their cancer journey, promoting person centered care.
To identify and maintain a network of support services and contacts to enable a high standard of care tobreast cancer patients.
To assist in research projects/audit process and Quality assurance projects.
To manage Nurse led survivorship clinics /complex wound clinics and assist in breaking bad news.
To promote and utilize close links and referral pathways to genetics, fertility services, lymphoedemaservices and our own Breast Psychologist to manage effects of cancer treatment.
To promote seamless care for patients with oncology and Plastics and other modalities, and holdestablished forms of communication to ensure the safety and wellbeing of patients.
To support the delivery of a high quality, safe and compassionate healthcare service, all staff are expected toact as a role model to others in all aspects of their work and consistently demonstrate NNUH's 'PRIDE' valuesof People focused, Respect, Integrity, Dedication and Excellence.
