Join the UHB Acute Pain CNS Team -- Full-Time Permanent Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the UHB Acute Pain Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) Team as a Band 6 nurse in a full-time, permanent role.
We are seeking an experienced Band 6 nurse with a background in acute pain and surgical care, who is motivated and enthusiastic, and keen to further develop their skills within a specialist service while making a meaningful impact on patient care.
Based at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, the Acute Pain Team provides a weekday inpatient service (08:00--16:00), delivering expert assessment and management for patients experiencing acute and complex pain.
In this role, you will work both autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team, providing specialist assessment and management of acute and chronic pain. You will support a range of pain management interventions, including epidurals, patient-controlled analgesia (PCA), and nerve blocks, while contributing to the delivery of safe, high-quality care.
You will also act as a clinical resource, offering specialist advice, education, and support to staff, patients, families, and carers, demonstrating advanced knowledge and clinical expertise in pain management.
Applicants must hold current NMC registration and provide evidence of revalidation.

Main duties of the job
Provide treatment and advice within scope of practice using agreed protocols and professional guidelines across face-to-face, virtual or telephone settings.
Deliver specialist clinical care within a defined patient group as part of the multidisciplinary team, ensuring high-quality, evidence-based practice aligned to compassion and respect.
Maintain accountability for safe administration and custody of medicines in line with Trust policy, including controlled drugs, IV therapies and blood products.
Provide a seamless service from referral through assessment, diagnosis, treatment and review, with onward referral as required.
Demonstrate safe, person-centred practice using up-to-date knowledge to inform clinical decision-making.
Assess and meet communication and education needs of patients and families.
Act as a patient advocate, supporting informed decision-making.
Recognise and respond to risks impacting patient safety and wellbeing.
Support timely discharge and transfer of care.
Identify and escalate safeguarding concerns appropriately.
Support and supervise clinical procedures to optimise outcomes.
Ensure effective handover between healthcare professionals.

Qualifications Essential
*Registered Nurse with valid NMC registration *Evidence of post registration CPD / post registration qualification in pain management or professional knowledge supplemented by specialist experience and short courses to FHEQ Level 6
Experience Essential
*Evidence and ability to revalidate as required by the NMC *Evidence of experience as a Band 6 nurse, demonstrating enthusiasm and strong knowledge in acute pain and pain management, supported by relevant hands-on surgical experience. *Evidence of achievements and career development in current post and of on-going professional development/ competence *Demonstrate specialist knowledge underpinned by theory and CPD relevant to speciality *Experience and enthusiasm for teaching/assessing and supervising others in a clinical setting *Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary and cross agency work environment *Demonstrate understanding / experience / willingness to be a practice-based supervisor / assessor as detailed in the NMC
