Job summary
The X-ray department requires an experienced radiographer to join our highly skilled and dedicated team, responsible for producing a high standard of radiography.
The Radiography department is regarded as an integral part of the hospital service and is well equipped with all modalities represented, producing high quality images.

Main duties of the job
You will undertake plain film radiography for orthopaedic, paediatric, spinal injury, GP direct access & specialist tumour services. You will also undertake theatre fluoroscopy, mobiles, CBCT, and interventional procedures.
The role includes acting as Duty Lead with an opportunity to develop mentoring, leadership, and communication skills.
There will be numerous opportunities for utilising adaptive technique and developing theatre expertise. There will also be opportunity to rotate through the MRI and CT departments.
The Band 6 role also includes a rotation through the Minor Injuries Unit at Oswestry health Centre.
You will be HCPC Registered with BSc in Diagnostic Radiography (or equivalent). You will undertake diagnostic imaging to the highest technical and professional standards whilst providing professional clinical advice and support for radiographers, ancillary staff, apprentices, and students.

Job description Job responsibilities
Perform highly specialised radiographic procedures, ensuring that high professional standards of work are achieved and maintained, whilst applying ALARA principles using IR (ME) R guidelines. Be aware of and follow current IR (ME) R procedures.
Participate inan on-call service as allocated.
Organise,plan and prioritise workload according to clinical need.
Organise in-patient workload coordinating the availability of porters, nurseescorts or doctors, adjusting plans in cases of unavailability or unforeseen problems.
Adjust work pattern whenout-patient demand from clinics exceeds expectations.
Work as part of a multidisciplinary team, taking the lead in advising on radiation protection of the other team members and patient whilst ensuring all team members are adequately protected.
Supervise,advise and mentor radiographer grade staff, support staff, students and nursing staff.
Participate in the training of student radiographers on placementin the department.
Be familiar with and train other members of staff in the use ofdiagnostic equipment and systems operated within the department.
Maintain and update patient records using RIS, PACS and EPR systems.
Act as practitioner for X-ray referrals deciding the mostappropriate investigation based upon the clinical information provided and on assessment of the patient.
Monitor patient conditions to ensure any adverse reactions are recognised and dealt with promptly and appropriately.
Advise medical staff, nursepractitioners and Advanced practitioners on the justification of examinations and suitable alternatives.
Suggest and implement improvement to services, policies and protocols based on research andevidence-based practice to improve the service the department offers to other users, using ongoing audit to monitor the effect of changes.
Maintainaccurate equipment records and report any faults to a senior member of staff.
Perform daily,weekly and monthly equipment tests for Quality assurance, monitoring the results on a database for use by the Regional Radiation Protection Service, noting any inconsistencies and taking the appropriate action informing the Radiation Protection Advisor.
Alwaysmaintain the principles of patient confidentiality ensuring that all staff uphold this principle.
Undertake regular CPD training and studymaintaining a portfolio of evidence to ensure that a high level of professional knowledge and expertise is achieved and maintained to both self and peer groups.
Be competent inall of the specialised projections undertaken and train other members of staff in these techniques.
Be familiar with the departmental computer systems and enter Patient data to enable others to access details of attendances and reports.
Assess the patients fitness and obtain consent before physically manipulating them into the necessary position to obtain diagnosticimages and adapt techniques and working practices accordingly to accommodate any disabilities or pathologies.
Assess initialradiograph images, interpret findings and decide on how to continue the examination based on the patient's' clinical condition and pathology.
Recognise abnormal pathology during specialist diagnostic examinations and alertappropriate medical staff.
Empathise, persuade, negotiatewith and provide reassurance to patients within the departments. Advise on radiation dose and effects.
Hand over areas of responsibility when moving on ensuring continuity and smooth running of department.
Participate in ongoing research projects. To be aware of and follow research protocols for imaging procedures.
Modify and implement modifications to departmental protocols as necessary to ensure that radiation dose is kept to a minimum.
