Job summary

Are you looking for a role where you can earn while you learn? We are seeking Pre-registration Pharmacy Technician level 3 Apprentices to join us:

Pharmacy technicians are registered professionals working within the regulatory standards for pharmacy as set by the General Pharmaceutical Council.

Our Pre-registration Pharmacy Technician Apprentices undertake a 2-year distance learning training programme with the University of East Anglia with lots of support from our dedicated and experienced training team. You will attend a virtual training to study for the coursework for your Certificate of Higher Education in Pharmacy Technician Practice.

To be eligible to apply for the Pre-registration Trainee Apprentice, you will need 4 GCSE's at grade C/4 or above including Maths, English and science (or a combined science award with one qualification at C/4 or above plus another GCSE). Maths and English Functional skills levels 2 can also be accepted. Pharmacy experience is not essential but would be desirable but a NVQ2 in pharmacy is not an alternative to the academic requirements above. You will be required to produce original copies of certificates at the interview, if you do not hold UK qualifications please ensure you have a statement of comparability showing that your qualifications are equivalent to the about GCSE levels.

Main duties under supervision include:

o Providing medications to inpatients, wards and patients visiting outpatient clinics

o Communicating with OUH staff and patients at our reception or via the telephone

o Using the pharmacy computer systems

o Counselling patients on medications

o Answering medicine queries in our medicines information department

o Working alongside a medicines management technician on wards

o Working in the cancer satellite pharmacy and clinical trials team

We are looking for hardworking and enthusiastic people who are interested in a healthcare career which has varied rotations and gives you a grounding in all aspects of pharmacy technician roles in hospital. We expect you to commit to the 2-year training programme, including all practical and academic aspects, supported by your excellent organisational skills.

This is a practical course alongside a Level 4 academic qualification based mainly at the John Radcliffe and Churchill Hospitals in Oxford working 37.5hours per week Monday to Friday with a one in six weekend commitment, late duty commitment and working one Bank Holiday a year.

Qualifications Essential

Personality / Disposition Essential

Knowledge Desirable

oUnderstand the roles of pharmacy technicians and pharmacists in hospital/community
