About this role

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Practice Nurse to join our dedicated and friendly clinical team at Barrington Medical Centre.

We are looking for a motivated and skilled nurse with core primary care experience, including cervical cytology, childhood and adult immunisations, chronic disease management and health promotion, to support the continued development of our patient services.

This role is being recruited under the NHS Additional Roles Reimbursement Scheme (ARRS) and is offered initially as a fixed-term post until 31 March 2027, with the expectation that the role will be reviewed in line with ongoing ARRS funding arrangements.

The successful candidate will join a supportive, forward-thinking and genuinely welcoming multidisciplinary team within a modern primary care environment. The post offers an excellent opportunity to further develop primary care skills whilst working closely with experienced clinicians and the wider practice team.

This post is offered ideally to be worked over 3 days. However, we are flexible and open to discussion regarding the number of hours up to a maximum 20 per week for the right candidate.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will undertake a broad range of practice nursing duties in line with experience and competency, including:

Chronic disease management including:

Diabetes

COPD

Asthma

CHD and Stroke

Cervical cytology

Childhood and adult immunisations and vaccinations

Health promotion and lifestyle advice

Wound care and treatment room duties

Phlebotomy

Support with minor surgery clinics

Opportunistic screening and preventative care

Infection prevention and control responsibilities

Patient education and self-management support

You will be expected to work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team and contribute to maintaining high standards of patient-centred care.

Located within the Altrincham Health & Wellbeing Centre, Barrington Medical Centre offers a modern, purpose-built environment with excellent facilities, including allocated underground parking and bright, well-designed clinical rooms.

Job description Job responsibilities

Clinical Nursing Practice

Undertake routine and specialist nursing assessments

Deliver evidence-based nursing care within agreed protocols

Support patients with long-term condition management

Assist GPs with minor surgery procedures where required

Undertake suture and clip removal

Perform venepuncture and other treatment room duties

Maintain accurate contemporaneous clinical records

Diabetes Management

Support patients in the management of insulin and non-insulin dependent diabetes

Provide education and self-management support

Undertake annual reviews in line with protocols

Contribute to maintaining the practice diabetes register

Make referrals where appropriate

Respiratory Disease Management

Support diagnosis and management of asthma and COPD

Undertake inhaler technique reviews and patient education

Use spirometry where appropriately trained

Contribute to maintaining respiratory disease registers

Cardiovascular Disease Management

Support management of hypertension, CHD and stroke patients

Promote healthy lifestyle interventions

Undertake cardiovascular risk assessments

Womens Health

Undertake cervical cytology

Promote awareness of national screening programmes

Provide sexual health and contraceptive advice where appropriate

Vaccinations and Immunisations

Deliver adult and childhood immunisations under PSDs/PGDs

Ensure safe vaccine storage and stock rotation

Support achievement of vaccination and quality targets

Health Promotion and Screening

Undertake opportunistic screening including BP, BMI, smoking status and urinalysis

Promote healthy lifestyle changes and preventative care

Support patients with smoking cessation and weight management advice

Infection Prevention and Control

Apply infection prevention and control measures in line with national and local guidance

Support safe handling of specimens, waste disposal and decontamination procedures

Emergency Management

Maintain competence in basic life support, anaphylaxis and emergency procedures

Quality and Continuous Improvement

Participate in audit and quality improvement activity

Maintain mandatory training and professional registration

Engage with appraisal and continuing professional development

Follow practice policies, procedures and clinical guidelines

Qualifications Essential

Registered General Nurse with current NMC registration Good standard of general education Relevant primary care nursing qualifications and/or experience Cervical cytology qualification or willingness to undertake training Immunisation & vaccination training
