Job summary

An exciting opportunity exists for career development in the Norwich BCSP team.

Due to secondments and age extension within the programme, we would like to offer 10 hours substantive, and 22.5 hours fixed term to end 30th April 2027 (total 33 hours), to an RGN with significant post registration and gastrointestinal experience (Please see attached Job Description).

A job share could be considered.Band 6 Hours- 33hrs per week

The post involves providing high quality and seamless patient focused care for the Norfolk population, who are being screened for bowel cancer. The post holder will work towards becoming an autonomous practitioner and will be responsible for the delivery of care to service users. They will work in a supportive, collaborative team with good opportunities for continuous professional development.

The post will be based at the Quadram Institute, Norwich.

Main duties of the job

Independently manage telephone pre assessment clinics, attend bowel screening endoscopy lists, data entry to the national bowel screening database, support patients being given bad news, convey histology results to patients, attend cancer multidisciplinary meetings, and participate in audit.

Successful applicants will require excellent communication, and holistic assessment skills, as well as a keen interest in endoscopy, polyp management, and general cancer care. Previous experience in endoscopy, colorectal or cancer nursing is essential, and familiarity with health promotion practice and the running of nurse-led clinics would be advantageous. Candidates will be committed to continuous professional development, possess excellent organisational and managerial skills, be able to demonstrate effective teamwork, and have the passion to deliver to the highest standard.

Job description Job responsibilities

Provide advice, information and support for those making direct contact with the screening centre (Core Dimension 1 Level 3). Be responsible for care delivery to patients identified by the screening programme and will meet the needs of patients. To use specialist knowledge and advanced communication skills with patients and carers when breaking bad news and providing psychological support on diagnosis, treatment and symptom management (Core Dimension 1 Level 3). Ensure timely access to screening colonoscopy or alternative diagnostic intervention and seamless transition to agreed pathways in primary, secondary, tertiary or out-patient care settings, during all stages of the screening pathway (Core Dimension HWB6 Level 1). To establish effective links with local colorectal cancer multi-disciplinary teams in order to ensure that when cancer is detected, there is timely presentation and transfer of patients to the multi-disciplinary team (Core Dimension 1 Level 3). Support the provision of helpline services run from the Hub by resolving queries referred by them to the screening centre (Core Dimension 5 Level 2). To ensure patient records for the screening services are completed to include data on treatment, staging and outcomes provided by the multi-disciplinary team (Core Dimension 1 Level 3). To maintain professional competence and support that of other staff within the BCSP (Core Dimension 2 Level 2). Support the BCSP Manager and Lead Screening Practitioner in the development of performance to the National Screening Programme, strategic groups and the wider health community (Core Dimension 4 Level 2). Qualifications Essential

Registered Nurse on the appropriate part of the register Evidence of continuing professional development and maintenance of a personal professional file Hold Nursing Degree or working towards Degree

Experience Essential

Significant post-registration experience including 2 years in gastrointestinal nursing

Skills Essential

Ability to communicate in a variety of settings with patients of varying levels of understanding. Basic IT skills in word processing and spreadsheets
