We are looking for an enthusiastic Clinical Fellow in Paediatric Anaesthesia to join our dynamic and supportive anaesthetic team at Sheffield Children's Hospital. This post is ideal for anaesthetists who hold the FRCA (or equivalent) and have at least six months' experience in paediatric anaesthesia.
Preference will be given to candidates who have completed their anaesthetic training and demonstrate a sustained interest in paediatric practice.
We welcome applications from candidates who may not be able to commit to a full-time position due to personal circumstances. If selected, we will work with you to explore flexible arrangements that accommodate your needs.
To support your professional development, we offer up to three months' training in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), tailored to your individual training needs. Working alongside paediatric medicine trainees and consultants, you will gain valuable cross-specialty experience in a collaborative environment.
Additionally, you may choose to spend one month (pro rata) in a cardiac unit, either as a block placement or through regular day-release, subject to availability. For those interested, a secondment with Embrace, the regional transport service for critically ill children and neonates, can also be arranged.
Main duties of the job
Reporting into the Anaesthesia Lead, your responsibilities will include:
Work within a team of 33 Paediatric Consultants, 2 Clinical Fellows, and 10 specialty trainees. Provide anaesthesia for elective and emergency cases in the theatre. Participate in the trainee on-call rota, in compliance with EWTD. Specialty trainees from the Yorkshire and Humber School of Anaesthesia rotate through Sheffield Children's Hospital (SCH) for a 3-month intermediate module during ST3 or ST4, followed by a 3-month higher module during ST5 or ST6. Trainees also have the option to return in ST7 for an additional 6-month advanced paediatric anaesthesia training module.

Qualifications Essential
MBBS or equivalent FRCA or equivalent Evidence of completion of competencies relevant to paediatric anaesthesia GMC registration
Desirable
Advanced Paediatric Life Support (APLS) certification.
Experience Essential
Minimum 2 years post-graduate clinical experience At least 6 months experience in anaesthesia, including exposure to paediatric cases Experience in managing critically ill children and neonates.
