The 24/7 emergency service is based at Royal Bournemouth Hospital and is supported by a 24/7 Specialist Interventional Radiology service.
The job plan provided assumes a full time commitment. Candidates wishing to work part-time or job-share will be considered. Applicants should be on the GMC Specialist Register or be within 6 months of obtaining their CCT in this speciality.
Main duties of the job
This is a Consultant Vascular Surgeon post within the DWVN, based at our Main Arterial Centre (MAC) in Royal Bournemouth Hospital. The ability to work across non-arterial sites within the DWVN (Dorchester, Poole, and Salisbury) is essential as is the ability to use your own transport to travel between sites. DWVN also provides some emergency Vascular cover (on the Bournemouth site) for Jersey patients.
Vascular Emergency cover across DWVN is provided 24/7 from our MAC in Bournemouth. The 1 in 8 on-call rota (internal prospective cover) is organised in a 'Consultant of the Week' model where Consultants are freed from elective activity whilst on-call.
This post will be paired with one of the existing experienced DWVN consultants in order to share a weekly all day elective theatre list, enabling some "buddy" operating for major surgical cases and expansive case mix experience. Outpatient clinics will be based in Royal Bournemouth, Poole, and Christchurch although you may be asked to cover clinical activity elsewhere within the Network in exceptional circumstances.
There is a well-established weekly Network MDT covering all arterial work, attended by surgeons, interventional radiologists, vascular anaesthetists, stroke consultants, advanced nurse practitioners and resident medical staff. In addition, consultants support daily ward rounds and participate actively in Trust educational and governance activities including regular half day clinical governance sessions.
