About this role

Job summary

We're looking for a proactive and detail-focused Communications Assistant Apprentice to support the delivery of accurate, timely and engaging communications.

Working as part of a Level 4 apprenticeship programme, you'll help shape how our organisation is perceived by its stakeholders, supporting a variety of media, campaign, digital and internal communications tasks.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys writing, simplifying complex messages and working collaboratively to inform, influence and engage target audiences. You'll contribute to campaign planning and delivery, assist with reputation management and support messaging across channels while developing technical and professional skills on the job.

The post holder will have strong communication skills enabling them to develop and manage relationships and connections with various stakeholders including colleagues, service users, carers, community groups.

The post-holder will ideally possess writing skills and feel confident using filming equipment, editing software and Microsoft programmes e.g. Outlook, Word, Publisher.

This post is for an individual who enjoys working with people, is a multi-tasker with an ability to work under pressure, producing material for internal and external distribution, has strong interpersonal skills and a can-do attitude.

Main duties of the job

Oversee the communications inbox and be the initial point of contact for the team Research, draft and edit written content for newsletters, website copy, internal comms and briefing materials Assist in the organisation of events at different sites, such as official openings or visits, including overseeing marketing materials, and photography Adapt messaging and tone of voice to suit different audiences, platforms and goals Contribute to the planning, scheduling and delivery of communication campaigns that support organisational priorities Collaborate with colleagues to develop clear, purposeful messaging and creative storytelling To develop creative presentations, films, infographics, digital and other visual forms of information Monitor media coverage, digital engagement and public sentiment, reporting on reach and impact Support day-to-day relationships with stakeholders and internal teams Ensure written outputs are inclusive, grammatically accurate and aligned with brand standards To produce patient information, working closely with services to ensure appropriate messages and images are used Assist in organising campaign events, launches or stakeholder communications Manage contact databases, mailing lists and content libraries in line with data protection guidelines Take part in campaign evaluation, learning reviews and the continuous improvement of communication approaches.

Key Residency and Eligibility Rules (2025/2026):

Three-Year Rule:Individuals must have lived in the UK, British Overseas Territories, Crown Dependencies, or the EEA/Switzerland for at least three years prior to the apprenticeship start date. Settled Status:Non-UK nationals must have settled status (no restrictions on stay) or pre-settled status under the EUSS, having lived continuously in the EEA/Switzerland/Gibraltar/UK for the last 3 years. Visa Requirements:For non-UK nationals, visas must be valid for the entire duration of the apprenticeship, including the end-point assessment.

Skills and experience Essential

Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to tailor messaging and tone of voice for different formats and audiences Interest in storytelling, public relations and campaign delivery Well organised with strong attention to detail Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines Willingness to learn about reputation management and media relations Team oriented with good stakeholder awareness and interpersonal skills Understanding of the need for accurate, ethical and transparent communications

Desirable

Familiarity with social media platforms, content scheduling or publishing tools Some experience creating or editing content (for example a blog, podcast, student publication, social channel or campaign) Awareness of UK media landscape or public relations principles Interest in current affairs, branding or organisational storytelling Understanding of basic data protection and confidentiality considerations in communications Competent with software packages (e.g. MS Access, PowerPoint, Excel, Project etc.) and willingness to learn new skills and technologies
