Job summary
The post holder will be responsible for the provision of care for patients in the Outpatient Services at Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation TrustCroydon directorate. The post holder will beaccountable for the provision of excellent nursing care and work collaboratively with themultidisciplinary team. She/he will provide direct line-management of the nurses in the outpatientservices.The post holder will work with the matron and the Head of Nursing to support nursing staff andensure services provided in outpatient services are patient focused, safe and efficient, and alwaysworking in a manner that promotes Moorfields Way of working, through the adoption of personcentred care principles, and that all care delivered adheres to best practice standards guidance andcriterion for ophthalmic nursing. The post holder will also be expected to support the implementationof Moorfields Nursing strategy and will be required to work mainly at the Croydon directorate.
Main duties of the job
To work as an expert ophthalmic clinical practitioner, ensuring that staffshave the appropriate skills necessary to care for the designated patient groups. Demonstrate the highest level of ophthalmic nursing practice and specialist advice in the assessment,planning, implementation, evaluation and discharge of patients. Lead on the provision of evidence based nursing practice. Be responsible for the assessment of care needs, development, implementation and evaluation ofhigh standards of nursing care within the surgical pathway. Be conversant with Trust Policies and guidelines and ensure compliance. Investigate and respond to complaints both written and verbal. Report information and findings backto the nursing teams. Line manage an amalgamated nursing team for both the day surgery pathway and the inpatientpathway. Co-ordinate between day care service at City Road and the satellite units when the need arises. Provide a professional role model to the nursing teams within day surgery, and lead the teams toprovide a patient focused service on a daily basis. Promote a positive image of the 6Cs to patients, relatives/carers and other key stakeholders,demonstrating a commitment to putting patients first. Actively promotes the Moorfields Way and be a role model in communicating with stakeholders. Ensure high standards of record keeping in both paper and electronic format, in order to evidence ourpreparation for CQC inspections and ongoing quality and safety agenda, whilst also making surecompliance is sustained across the clinical areas.

To be responsible for managing staffing resources effectively and efficiently, and to managestaff performance in accordance with trust policy. Implement and be actively engaged in competency-based assessments in conjunction withthe trust Education Team. Lead in the audit process for monitoring and reviewing nursing quality. To be responsible for implementing, maintaining and monitoring measureable standards ofcare using agreed tools. Maintain and improve standards of care whilst monitoring the care environment. To be responsible for the needs of the service users in determining short and long termpriorities in conjunction with the trust priorities and objectives.
Person Specification
Education & Qualifications Essential
NMC Registered Nurse - Part 1 Adult Possession of Degree/Master level education or evidence of currently working towards one Recognised clinical teaching qualification / mentorship or equivalent
Skills & Experience Essential
Extensive experience in Ophthalmology Nursing Demonstrates evidence of leading and managing nursing practice in Ophthalmic Outpatient Service Good knowledge of a variety of ophthalmic procedures, machineries and equipment
