Job summary
The HCA within sexual health services will work in a busy integrated sexual health environment, within a multidisciplinary team. The staffing structure is designed to support the delivery of core services at the service hubs based at Florence Nightingale & peripherals in Derby city and county. The post holder will be:
Responsible for delivering planned, high-quality care providing an effective service that responds to the sexual health and contraception needs of all service users attending the department. In-house training is provided in line with the British Association of Sexual Health & HIV to ensure consistent high quality patient care to the local community. This includes STI screening of asymptomatic patients, follow up testing, venepuncture, assisting medical and nursing staff performing intimate genital examinations and procedures, specimen collection, chaperoning and performing diagnostic microscopy. Responsible for the preparation and maintenance of a clean and safe clinical area. To actively promote and signpost sexual health services and general health promotion services. As part of this post the expected to work flexibly work across Derby City and County clinics. Understand the patient need and respond accordingly by adapting to a variety of clinical presentations. Must be non judgemental and inclusive.
Main duties of the job
The post holder with be expected to provide quality care and always behave in a professional manner in order to meet the Organisations Values and Expectations and National standards. Specific specialist contraception and sexual health training will be provided to achieve the expectations of the role such as but not limited to:
An understanding of contraception provision, STI's, transmission, clinical presentation and diagnosis. All duties as listed in the Job overview section. Support the patient to undertake self-taken asymptomatic screens and follow-up screening in line with BASHH guidance Clinical observations, venepuncture, point of care testing, pregnancy testing, urine testing, microscopy, gram staining Support the HIV service with venepuncture and weekly clinics Assist the registered nurses and doctors with assessment of clinical needs, chaperoning patients and supporting within the clinical setting in a responsive and professional manner. Able to assess patients' level of understanding and experience in relation to consent to undergo clinical procedures (including HIV testing) and refer complex clients/clinical situation where appropriate to senior staff.
