Job summary
This Fellowship post is designed to accommodate an orthopaedic clinician, who has attained CCT (or equivalent) in Trauma and Orthopaedics, or who is on the GMC's specialist register, who would like to gain a further period of development in the sub-speciality of Foot and Ankle Surgery in preparation for a consultant role within emphasis on total ankle replacement experience. Role commences February 2027
The post offers, subject to satisfactory assessment, the opportunity to develop independent surgical practice. The role also gives exposure to specialist Foot and Ankle clinics and theatre lists and the opportunity to engage in research and audit programmes. BOFAS has approved the fellowship having review the previous fellows' logbooks and other fellowship outputs.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will undertake out-patient clinics, theatre lists and any related pre-and post-operative work. These will be predominantly with Mr Bing and Mr Makwana to gain experience in total ankle replacement surgery, covering primary TAR, patient specific and revision surgery. There will be exposure to other areas of foot and ankle practice as well.

On normal working days, the actual allocation of the following regular commitments will be aligned to the rotation to the foot and ankle consultants. Where possible, parallel operating lists with the supervising consultant will be scheduled. The following gives an indication of the normal weekly commitments for Out-Patients and Theatres, during weeks where out of hours duties are not scheduled.
Out-Patient Clinics with supervising consultants
3 x 4 hour sessions per week
Operating Theatre with supervising consultants
3 x 5 hour sessions per week
Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
FRCS (Orth) or equivalent / equivalent level of experience
Registration Essential
GMC registration with licence to practice, no restrictions on practice AND entered onto the Specialist Registrar in Orthopaedics
Experience Essential
Minimum of 12 months surgical Foot and Ankle experience Satisfactory evidence of independent operating in the main foot and ankle surgical procedures
Desirable
Evidence of engagement in audit and or research Evidence of audit or research activity within foot and ankle sub-speciality
