As a Higher Security Officer, you will work at the new Sunderland Specialist Eye Hospital, to assist in the protection of patients, staff, visitors and the hospital building. The post holder must hold a valid Security Industry Authority licence to undertake this role.

Main duties of the job
Duties of a Higher Security Officer role;
Responding to requests from wards and departments for support in handling violent/potentially violent incidents, of those in fear of physical harm, scenes of actual or suspected crime where personal injury is involved, or a crime in progress. Monitoring of CCTV, answering any queries from both the public and staff and key management Proactively patrol of the internal and external sites, securing buildings, To provide information and assistance to staff, patients and visitors on Security Assist in the prevention of crime Respond to emergency incidents including fire General Car Parking Duties Assisting in the vision to create a safe place to work, visit and stay.
Shift pattern
20 hours per week Friday, Saturday and Sunday night shifts only 7pm to 7am. 1 week on and 1 week off (unless covering absence)

The post holder will work as a member of the security team within the Sunderland Royal Hospital to assist in the protection of patients, staff and visitors. The post holder must hold a valid Security Industry Authority licence to undertake this role. The role includes:

Staffing of the security control room, which includes monitoring of CCTV, answering any queries from both the public and staff and key management Proactively patrol of the internal and external sites, securing buildings, To provide information and assistance to staff, patients and visitors on Security Assist in the prevention of crime Respond to emergency incidents including fire General Car Parking Duties Assisting in the vision to create a safe place to work, visit and stay. Experience of conflict management, violence and aggression.

Skills and Knowledge Essential
Negotiation and calming skills to de-escalate a violent/potentially violent situation Communication skills required when answering the phone or using two way radios Able to work alone or as part of a team. Able to use initiative when faced with an emergency situation Basic IT/keyboard skills to document daily logs and use of CCTV system. To be customer focussed particularly towards patients and visitors.
Physical skills Essential
Moving and Handling Be able to undertake control and restraint training to restrain individuals for prolonged periods of time Ability to sit at workstations as necessary to perform undertake monitoring of CCTV
Qualifications Essential
Basic Numeracy and Literacy education Class B Driving licence Hold a Security Industry Authority (SIA) door supervisor, which must be renewed and revalidated every 3 year Hold a Security Industry Authority (SIA) CCTV operator, which must be renewed and revalidated every 3 year
Desirable
Literacy Level 2 (equivalent to GCSE Grade C) Numeracy Level 2 (equivalent to GCSE Grade C) Conflict resolution / physical intervention training
