About this role

Job summary Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust is pleased to offer a Post-CCT Clinical Fellowship in Paediatrics, designed for doctors who have completed specialty training and are seeking to further develop subspecialty expertise, leadership capability, and independent clinical practice prior to taking up a substantive consultant role.

This 12-month fellowship provides a balance of: Senior clinical responsibility at registrar/early consultant level Protected time for subspecialty interest development Opportunities for outpatient clinic exposure, leadership, education and service development

The post is ideal for:

Doctors post-CCT preparing for consultant roles Doctors wishing to gain additional subspecialty experience (SPIN or equivalent) Individuals seeking to strengthen their portfolio, leadership, or academic profile

The role will be based primarily at Pinderfields Hospital (Wakefield) and Dewsbury Hospital, although all medical staff contribute to care across the Trusts sites. Less than full time applications will be considered.

Main duties of the job The post holder will work at a post-CCT level within a senior clinical role, contributing to the delivery of acute paediatric and neonatal services across the Trust, including inpatient, assessment unit and neonatal settings. Responsibilities include: Assessment and management of acutely unwell infants, children and young people Supervising and supporting junior medical staff Leading escalation and contributing to senior clinical decision-making Supporting patient flow and effective service delivery

The role offers opportunities for increasing autonomous clinical practice, with appropriate consultant support.

The Post holder will participate fully in the middle-grade rota, which includes: Weekday long days and twilight shifts Night shifts (paediatrics and neonates) Weekend working on a full shift rota

The Trust operates a preference-based rostering system, allowing fellows to indicate their shift preferences where possible.

Service provision remains an essential component of the role; however, every effort will be made to balance this with the fellows developmental and subspecialty interests.

An Introduction to the Division/Specialty from the Head of Clinical Service

The Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust Children’s department has an opportunity to welcome one dynamic, enthusiastic and motivated individual to the team. This acute paediatric and neonatal post will allow the candidate to pursue entry on to the Specialist Register whilst in post with the support of the Trust – if the candidates wish to pursue this course.

As with all paediatric posts this is a trust-wide appointment. The post-holders will share all aspects of acute paediatrics with the existing team. The candidates should have relevant experience in clinical management of children and neonates, including acute resuscitation, acute management, management of patients with chronic conditions and longer term follow up to work as part of the middle grade rota.

Essential person specification requirements

To meet the requirements of this role, applicants must demonstrate the following essential criteria:

Full GMC Registration with licence to practise

Medical Degree from recognised medical school

Up to date EPLS/ APLS/ NLS or equivalent resuscitation qualification

Evidence of working at, or near, completion of higher specialist training in Paediatrics (ST6–8 level or equivalent) Significant experience in acute paediatrics and neonatology, including independent assessment and management of acutely unwell patients

Experience of supervising junior medical staff and contributing to multidisciplinary team working

Experience in safeguarding practice

Eligibility to work in the UK

Demonstrates intelligent and analytical approach to problem solving.

Good time management.

Possesses good communication skills.

Ability to work as a team with medical and nursing colleagues

Flexibility.

Willingness to provide and learn all aspects of hospitals internal systems and processes and adhere to local policies
