About this role

Job summary We are seeking a 12-month Locum Consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedics with an interest in Adult Trauma + Lower Limb Surgery to join our team of 24 Orthopaedic Consultants providing a range of acute and elective services.

The post is predominantly focused on Lower Limb Surgery and the candidate should have a sub speciality interest in Lower Limb surgery, and ideally will have completed a one year fellowship scheme focusing on this sub-specialty. The candidate must also be able to demonstrate in depth training in trauma surgery.

Main duties of the job The main duties of the post will include: Working as part of the Orthopaedic team to provide a comprehensive service including general adult and paediatric orthopaedic trauma. Particularly experienced in delivery of Lower Limb, and Upper limb trauma. Provide continuing clinical responsibility for patients under his/her care. Provide evidence based care for patients in a multidisciplinary setting. Contribute to undergraduate, post graduate, and multi-professional educational development with higher educational qualifications desirable. Potential to contribute to a 1:16 on-call commitment providing Urgent and Emergency Care, therefore it is essential to demonstrate active commitment to the management of trauma. Deliver a comprehensive Lower Limb Surgical Service, focusing on day case and inpatient trauma surgery. With opportunity to develop adult elective Lower Limb service to include out-patient assessment, investigation & surgical treatment. It is essential to evidence fellowship level Subspecialty Lower Limb Surgery training, and recent experience of general adult trauma.

The post will be mainly based at Pinderfields and Pontefract Hospitals however the appointed consultant must be willing to work at the other hospital site (Dewsbury Hospital).

Essential person specification requirements

To meet the requirements of this role, applicants must demonstrate the following essential criteria:

Full GMC Registration with licence to practise, Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register

Medical Degree from recognised medical school

FRCS (Tr & Orth) or equivalent

ATLS provider

Eligibility to work in the UK

Ability to undertake independent Consultant practice in general orthopaedics & trauma

Fellowship experience in Lower Limb surgery (Minimum 6 months)

Demonstrates intelligent and analytical approach to problem solving.

Evidence of audit work and where this has brought about change.

Ability to effectively organise and manage clinical workload.

Research Skills: Publication of research articles, demonstrating understanding of research Methodology.

Evidence of relevant peer reviewed papers and other publications (e.g. book chapter, book editor, case report – not abstracts or letters)

Knowledge of NHS structures and management arrangements.

Good time management.

Ability to contribute to the development of the Trust and its services.

Able to communicate clearly and effectively with staff and patients.

Caring and compassionate

Flexible & adaptable Willingness to provide and learn all aspects of hospitals internal systems and processes and adhere to local policies

Proven ability to build and maintain effective teams and work within the multidisciplinary team

Physically able to carry out the duties as specified in the job description and ability to evidence competencies.

Able to access all trust sites in a timely manner to fulfil the duties of the post.
