Main duties of the job

Due to continued growth, we are seeking an experienced Dispensary Manager to lead day-to-day dispensary operations, drive team performance, and maintain the highest standards of patient safety and governance.

Job description Job responsibilities

As Dispensary Manager, you will take full responsibility for the operational management of the dispensary, ensuring prescriptions are processed safely, efficiently, and in line with GPhC standards and NHS regulations.

Operational LeadershipOversee all dispensary operations, ensuring smooth workflow and service deliveryManage prescription volumes within a distance selling model, ensuring turnaround times are metOptimise processes to improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalabilityClinical Governance & ComplianceEnsure compliance with GPhC standards, SOPs, and NHS contractual requirementsMaintain audit-ready records and support regulatory inspections (e.g. CQC, GPhC)Oversee incident reporting, dispensing error investigations, and learning implementationEnsure controlled drugs and prescription governance requirements are metQuality & Patient SafetyChampion a culture of patient-centred care and continuous improvementMonitor service quality, responding to patient feedback and complaintsSupport the safe handling of remote patient queries (phone, email, digital platforms)Stock & Systems ManagementManage inventory control, ordering, and stock accuracyOversee use of EPS and digital pharmacy systemsEnsure secure data handling and GDPR compliance

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services (or equivalent) Significant experience working in a UK pharmacy setting (community or distance selling) Proven experience in a senior dispensary or supervisory/management role Strong understanding of UK pharmacy law, dispensing processes, and governance requirements Experience managing teams in a fast-paced environment

Desirable

Experience within a distance selling pharmacy setting Leadership or management qualification (e.g. ILM, NVQ Level 4+) Experience with audits, SOP writing, or service development Knowledge of high-volume dispensing operations

Experience Essential

Strong leadership and people management capability Excellent organisational and operational planning skills High attention to detail and commitment to patient safety Ability to work in a fast-paced, target-driven environment Confident communicator across remote and multidisciplinary teams
