As part of our continued growth, we are seeking an experienced and motivated Lead Dispenser to oversee dispensing operations and support a high-performing pharmacy team.
Main duties of the job
The Lead Dispenser will play a critical leadership role in ensuring the safe, accurate, and efficient dispensing of prescriptions within a distance selling environment. You will supervise dispensary staff, maintain compliance with GPhC standards and NHS regulations, and contribute to continuous service improvement.

Dispensing & Operational Oversight
Accurately dispense prescriptions in line with legal and clinical requirementsOversee workflow within the dispensary, ensuring efficiency and timely processingSupport digital dispensing systems and distance selling workflowsLeadership & Team Management
Supervise and support dispensary staff, including training and performance oversightAct as a point of escalation for dispensing queries and operational issuesContribute to staff rota planning and workload allocationCompliance & Governance
Ensure adherence to GPhC standards, SOPs, and NHS contractual requirementsMaintain robust audit trails and support internal/external inspectionsLead on error reporting, incident learning, and continuous improvementPatient Safety & Service Quality
Promote a culture of patient safety and high-quality careSupport handling of patient queries remotely (e.g. telephone/email)Ensure confidentiality and GDPR compliance at all times
Person Specification
Skills & Attributes Essential
Strong organisational and prioritisation skills Excellent communication (particularly in remote/patient-facing environments) Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume setting Proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement
Experience Essential
NVQ Level 2/3 in Pharmacy Services (or equivalent qualification) Significant experience working in a UK community or distance selling pharmacy Strong understanding of dispensing processes and pharmacy law Experience supervising or mentoring staff High attention to detail and commitment to patient safety
Desirable
Experience working within a distance selling pharmacy model Knowledge of electronic prescribing systems (EPS) Previous involvement in audits, SOP development, or inspections Leadership or team management training
