About this role

Job summary

The post holder will autonomously undertake assessment and treatment of patients in the EmergencyDepartment who may present with complex and/or chronic illnesses and/or injury; to determine aclinical diagnosis, treatment and appropriate discharge as indicated as well as maintainingcomprehensive patient records.The post holder will also work in conjunction with other members of the multidisciplinary team to formpart of the enhanced streaming team based in the Emergency Department. As a senior decision makeryou will determine the most appropriate place for patients to be streamed by utilising the mostappropriate clinical pathway based on the patient's clinical need.The post holder will be a source of clinical expertise to less experienced staff, enhancing the nurses'skills and knowledge and work in partnership within a multi-disciplinary team.The post holder will contribute to meeting the identified Key Performance Indicators within the timeframes identified.To ensure a high quality and safe patient centred service

Qualified EP/ECP Essential

oFirst level Registration Nurse or Paramedic oA33 autonomous Practitioner or Minor Injuries & illness qualification accredited at level 6 or above. oadvanced Physical Assessment qualification at level 6 or above. oX Ray interpretation (IRMER). oInterpretation of images (Red Dot Course). oBLS oSubstantial experience and evidence of practice in an emergency or urgent care setting with exposure to a wide variety of patients with emergency or urgent care needs oExcellent knowledge base in the assessment, diagnosis, management and treatment of patients who present with undefined injury and/or illness oRecent and continuing evidence of developing practice oIn depth understanding of local and national issues relating to emergency or urgent care oGood decision making, communication and organisational skills oUp to date knowledge of Department of Health and NICE guidelines

Desirable

oIndependent and Supplementary Prescribing oTeaching and Assessing qualification oALS/PALS o Management/ Leadership qualification. o Evidence of continuing professional education and training at master's level. o MSc Advanced Practice Experience in general practice or walk in centre o Evidence of audit or research experience oIT skills to perform literature searches enabling enhancement of theoretical knowledge

SKILLS Essential

oAssessment skills oAble to work autonomously, planning and prioritising own workload and that of others. Able to delegate work effectively and safely. Able to recognise own boundaries of practice, maintain standards and work within local guidelines and protocols and in accordance with the NMC and HCPC. oCompetent in physical examination of ENT, Eye, Gastrointestinal, Respiratory, Cardiovascular, Neurological, Skin, Musculoskeletal systems, suturing and wound management. o Management of injury and illness o Fracture management o IT skills to enable accurate, contemporaneous recording of consultations oSuturing o X-ray interpretation oCommunicates with patients and carers in an empathetic manner. oDemonstrates understanding of good practice in Customer Care oCommitted to self-directed development and the development of the service oAssertive, adaptable and flexible to the needs of the service
