About this role

Job summary This role supports the delivery of high-quality client care by working as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide high-quality occupational therapy assessments and interventions for adults with mental health conditions. You will assess clients' functional abilities and needs, develop, and deliver evidence-based interventions to promote recovery, independence, and wellbeing, and work collaboratively with clients, carers, and other professionals to achieve shared goals.

The post holder will also work closely with colleagues to ensure services run smoothly and efficiently

Main duties of the job The post holder will be responsible for managing their own workload, prioritising tasks effectively, and ensuring deadlines are met. They will be expected to work independently as well as part of a team, demonstrating flexibility and a commitment to high standards. The role may involve working across multiple sites and requires excellent communication and organisational skills.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected to:

Provide occupational therapy assessments, interventions, and outcome measures for clients with mental health conditions, including anxiety and depression, psychosis, and personality disorders. Use evidence-based interventions and positive risk management approaches to improve clients' occupational performance and promote their recovery, independence, and wellbeing. Work collaboratively with clients, carers, other professionals, and partner agencies to develop individualised care plans that address clients' needs, goals, and preferences. Empower service users and their carers to develop relapse prevention and crisis plans, maximising their ability to resolve crisis and prevent hospitalisation. Support safe and effective discharge from inpatient and Home Treatment Team services by providing regular reviews and follow-up. Facilitate and lead therapeutic groups in collaboration with other Occupational Therapists in the team, including psychoeducation and life skills training. Provide clinical supervision and mentorship to Occupational Therapy students and support staff. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of clients' assessments, interventions, and progress, in accordance with professional standards and service policies. Adhere to ethical and professional standards and promote the values and principles of the Occupational Therapy profession.

Starting with NELFT NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Goodmayes Hospital, Essex.

Probationary Period This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).

High Cost Area Supplement – Outer London (B&D, Redbridge, Havering and Waltham Forest, Goodmayes) This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £4,870 to a maximum of £6,137 p.a. pro rata for part time).

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

NVQ level 2 or equivalent standard of literacy and numeracy.

BSc (Hons) or equivalent Occupational Therapy qualification.

Current HCPC Registration.

Evidence of Continuous Professional Development

Clinical Supervision training.

Experience Essential

Preceptorship completion.

Assess, plan, implement, evaluate OT interventions.

Working with other teams and agencies

Desirable

Work with people who present challenging behaviour.

Experience of working with older adults (aged 70+) in physical or mental health settings
