About this role

Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a first rate consultant, with specialist interest in complex devices and inherited cardiac conditions to join our growing team. The successful candidate will join a team of 26 consultant cardiologists, 8 of whom are specialists in devices and EP, with 3 consultants supporting the ICC service.

UHNM is a high volume device centre, implanting more than 1500 pacemakers and devices in 24/25, including leadless and conduction system pacing devices for our secondary and tertiary population of patients. .

The established ICC service provides specialist clinics for patients with HCM, DCM, muscular dystrophies, aortopathies, including patients with Marfan's syndrome, Ehlers Danlos and Loewys Dietz. The unit looks after a full range of channelopathies and has excellent links to the inherited conditions teams in Birmingham and Manchester.

Main duties of the job

This is a full-time post for a Consultant Cardiologist with Complex Device and ICC or heart failure expertise at the University Hospitals of the North Midlands.

Clinical Duties include:

Diagnosis and treatment of ward and outpatients in cardiology. Regular ward rounds on the cardiology wards. Continuing clinical responsibility for the patients in your charge allowing for all proper delegation to and training of your staff.

To see ward consults/referrals when on call.

Provision of two outpatient clinics per week: specialising in ICC management or Heart Failure with a general cardiology component.

On call commitment for cardiology, currently 1:11. The on-call commitment is divided in to week day (Monday to Thursday) and weekend (Friday to Sunday) cover sand includes daily post take ward round for review of all patients accepted by Cardiology. Time off in lieu can be considered for weekend working by mutual agreement with the directorate team.

Delivery of a minimum of 2 catheter lab sessions per week for the implantation of both simple and complex devices.

The appointee will be expected to undertake administrative duties associated with the running of his/her clinical work. There will be full secretarial support and the provision of fully equipped office and IT facilities. The appointee will be expected to take a full part in professional activities required for revalidation including clinical audit.
