The pharmacy provides a high-quality medicines service, supplying medication to a variety of patients and wards/departments at The Grange University Hospital (GUH), the majority of which is processed by our automated robot dispensing system.

The role will involve dispensing and distribution of pharmaceuticals, restocking and optimisation of pharmacy robotic storage and being part of the wider pharmacy team in providing a medicines management service at ward level. The role will be Monday - Friday, but there will be a need for weekend working on a rotational basis.

This post is a fixed term/secondment for 10 months until 31st March 2027 to cover maternity leave. If you are interested in applying for the secondment position, you must obtain permission from your current line manager prior to applying for this post.

Main duties of the job

To carry out the accurate dispensing and distribution of pharmaceuticals to patients, wards, departments, hospitals and clinics served by The Grange University Hospital (GUH). To carry out the accurate distribution of stock pharmaceuticals, receipt of new stock into the department, the assembly of emergency kits, the preparation of pharmaceuticals and the accurate supply of basic non pharmaceutical information to clients. To use the pharmacy and other computer systems in order to carry out all tasks in an accurate and efficient manner. To assist in the delivery of a near patient medicines management service to in patients admitted to wards at GUH. This will include tasks such as the assessment of patient's own drugs for inpatient use and discharge supply.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Knowledge Essential

Good Standard of Secondary Education Vocational/NVQ level 3 or equivalent training Knowledge of Pharmacy procedures

Desirable

GCSE at C grade or above in Maths, English and science or equivalent qualifications Current knowledge of hospital Pharmacy practice GPhC accredited Pharmacy Assistant accuracy checking qualification

Experience Essential

Recent experience in job providing a service /supply function

Desirable

Working experience in Pharmacy

Organisational abilities Attention to detail Able to undertake simple arithmetical calculations without a calculator Good verbal and written communications skills Computer literate Motivated approach to work Able to work well as part of a team and independently Ability to make logical decisions e.g., setting stock levels
