Job summary We are seeking an experienced and motivated individual to take on an exciting leadership role within our Division, leading a broad portfolio of surgical services including ENT, Oral Surgery, Trauma & Orthopaedics, Rheumatology, and Endoscopy.
The post holder will provide strategic and operational leadership across these services, working closely with clinical and corporate colleagues to deliver high-quality, efficient patient care. Each specialty will have an established operational lead, all of whom will report directly to this role, ensuring strong day-to-day management and delivery within each area.
A key focus of the role will be driving elective recovery and ensuring sustainable service delivery within agreed financial envelopes. The successful candidate will play a central role in supporting and delivering divisional transformation programmes, helping to improve productivity, performance, and patient outcomes across the portfolio. This is an excellent opportunity for an aspiring or established senior leader to further develop their leadership capability within a supportive environment. The post holder will benefit from strong senior support across the Division and will be encouraged to develop their skills in strategic planning, operational management, and service transformation.
Main duties of the job General Manager Role - Overview:
The General Manager is a high-profile leadership role within the Trust. Together with the Head of Nursing, the post holder will be responsible for overall management/ leadership of the designated care groups. Working with the management teams, clinical leads, matrons and senior AHP leads, to develop and evaluate all services within their remit. The General Manager will ensure that effective and efficient structures are in place to ensure that all standards of patient care are met, and associated risk and governance matters are managed. The post holder will support the Head of Nursing and Clinical Leads in developing efficient and effective patient centred services, meeting key financial and operational performance targets, and putting in place effective processes for delivering national/ local targets, reviewing the efficiency and effectiveness of services in terms of cost effectiveness and financial flows. The post holder will work with internal and external stakeholders to identify and exploit opportunities for service redesign through the application of relevant service improvement techniques. Deputise for the Divisional Director of Operations as required and participate in the on-call rota for the Trust.

Qualifications Essential
Education to a masters degree level or equivalent experience Recognised post-graduate management qualification or equivalent experience
Experience Essential
Significant general and operational management experience to include the management of a large multi-disciplinary group of staff part of which to have been in the NHS. A proven record of success in managing significant operational / strategic change whilst also developing and maintaining the provision of a high-quality service, within a clinical setting, with multidisciplinary teams. E Experience of team working and building and maintaining effective working relationships in a multidisciplinary environment Fully developing staff potential through facilitating training, development and education initiatives Demonstrable ability to lead and influence Evidence of sound budgetary management experience Experience in service redesign and project management
Desirable
Experience of working with external organisations (GP practices, social services, community services, local authority, etc) Experience in managing quality/ clinical audit/ clinical governance/ risk management issues
