Job summary
Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint a LAS Specialty Registrar (ST3 equivalent) in ENT, with a start date on 01 July 2026. The tenure of the post is for a fixed term period until 06 October 2026. Please note that this post does not attract a National Training Number (NTN).
The posts are based within the existing teams with access to departmental teaching and other developmental opportunities. Despite not being recognised as 'training posts' they allow doctors to improve the breadth and depth of their experience in ENT.
Full registration with the GMC with a licence to practise is required, and if the appointee does not hold right of residence in the UK sponsorship will be required.

Main duties of the job
Otology/Neurology
A full range of modern otology/neurology is undertaken and developing in:
base of skull surgery, including neurotology and anterior skull-base surgery implantation otology management of complex hearing and balance disorders bespoke facial reanimation devices Rhinology There is an active adult and paediatric rhinology Service in Sheffield undertaking all aspects of sinonasal and anterior skull base surgery. Nasolacrimal surgery is performed in close liaison with the Ophthalmology Department and inter-disciplinary cases are undertaken with Maxillofacial and Neurosurgery. There is also an active rhinology research programme with associated laboratory space

Job description Job responsibilities
Appointments are made to the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the person appointed is required to be sufficiently flexible to undertake their main clinical duties at any of the sites within the Trust and/or to change their base hospital.
The ENT Consultants will delegate specific duties and responsibilities in accordance with experience/competence and the needs of the department. Changes in duties and responsibilities will be agreed with the Consultant to whom the post holder will be responsible, i.e. Mr Showkat Mirza, Clinical Lead.
The Specialty Registrar will cover one nights on-call including Sheffield Childrens Hospital, including prospective cover for one another, as well as providing prospective cover for other registrars.
The duties of the post may change from time to time according to service needs and the experience/interests of the appointee. It will be a variable timetable but will also cover hot on call day gaps

Qualifications Essential
Registered with the GMC with a licence to practise by the date of application MRCS or equivalent At least 6 months general ENT training in a secondary care setting Basic Medical Degree (MBBS)

Advanced Life Support Certificate from Resuscitation Council UK or equivalent
Clinical Experience Essential
2 years experience post foundation training programme (or equivalent where applicable) at core surgical level Minimum 6 months NHS experience (not clinical attachment)
Teaching and Training Essential
Experience of teaching medical students and resident doctors
Continuous Professional Development Essential
Evidence of participation in CME/CPD in the last 12 months
Desirable
Maintenance of a CPD diary or portfolio
Personal Attributes Essential
Demonstrates behaviour consistent with PROUD values (see appendix) The applicant must demonstrate skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking the English language that enables effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues as set out in the GMC good medical practice (2013)
