About this role

Job summary

We are looking for a Recovery Nurse to work within our Spark Recovery Collaborative. We have an exciting opportunity to consider individuals with a drug and alcohol interest to become part of the Nursing Team within the Blackburn with Darwen community.

You will provide high quality nursing care for patients requiring substance misuse services and detox through our programmes and pathways due to the increasing need within our local community. Clients will be empowered to engage in treatment and detox pathways, including home visits, assessments, reduction plans, home detox and referral into Tier four provision.

You will be working with a large team of professionals, with your main area of work within the nursing and alongside the Recovery Teams. You will carry out health and well-being assessments within the nursing team.

Main duties of the job

Work in a large, busy, cross site, multi-disciplinary service. The team is a fast past team working with a client group through the stages of their drug use, alcohol use and recovery.

Specialise in providing clinical and psychosocial interventions to support alcohol detox pathways, including home visits, assessments, reduction plans, home detox and referral into Tier four provision.

Assess, plan and evaluate care for patients, taking into account the potential needs of individuals including young people & older people, with additional regard to safeguarding, mental health, BBV, sexual health, smoking cessation and toxic trio.

Administration of appropriate treatment options

Clinical and Psychosocial assessments to help create a person centred integrated care plan. Exploring Compliance to treatment and where necessary testing.

Health promotions work for areas such as Sleep management, BBV, Wellbeing, Detox promotion and plan setting as well as new initiates and monthly topics.

Delivery of KPIs in line with contract agreement to help evidence our service delivery.

Joint multidisciplinary collaboration with all stakeholders.

Caseload of complex and non-complex clients.

Supporting colleagues and managers with new initiatives and service offers, and any reasonable requested Activity.

Care planning of a clients recovery journey which is person centred and puts the client at the focus of all decision making.

Supervision of Nurse Associates and support workers.

Job description Job responsibilities

To provide high quality nursing care for patients requiring substance misuse services and detox through our programmes and pathways, with a focus on Alcohol specialism due to the increasing need within our local community.

This role is hands on providing clinical, psychosocial, and holistic solutions and contributes to the improvement, development, and innovation of our service offer to ensure our clients get the very best care.

Clients accessing will receive excellent Drug and Alcohol Clinical Interventions in Blackburn with Darwen including treatment, harm reduction, BBV testing, screening and client education.

Client caseloads will be managed effectively ensuring clients needs are considered and supported appropriately with robust plans in place to evidence the support.

Communication will be in a non-judgemental, empathetic way with patients, partner agencies and other professionals.

Clients will be informed and fully supported to make choices about the recovery options available to them.

Clients will be empowered to engage in treatment support alcohol detox pathways, including home visits, assessments, reduction plans, home detox and referral into Tier 4 provision.

Clients will be engaged with the service throughout their care responding positively to interventions and exiting our service with improved health and wellbeing.

Clients will be supported and encouraged to build their personal strengths and social networks as part of their development to achieve identified goals.

New ideas will be offered to improve and strengthen our service offer so that we are able to provide the very best support to our clients.

Support Workers and Nurse associates will be supported to carry out their roles effectively and be mentored to thrive and develop in and beyond their roles.

Contract KPIs and deliverables will consistently be met or exceeded to ensure we are in the best possible position to retain the contract and win new work, enabling us to provide outstanding services to current and new clients.

Services and support will be delivered safely and effectively in line with all current regulatory requirements and internal policies and procedures.

Continued personal development in the Recovery Nurse role to increase the service offer and own skill set and give the ability to mentor newly qualified nurses/new Recovery Nurses.

Person Specification

Knowledge and skills Essential

Skilled in excellent verbal and written communication. Ability to effectively prioritise and organise own workload, seeking support when necessary. Ability to undertake lone working with little supervision. Well-developed IT skills and data base skills. Experience of lone working. Contributing to updating guidelines/polices within specialist area. Excellent time management and organisational skills. Up to date knowledge of advances in management of patients with Alcohol-use Disorders. Knowledge of the physical, psychological and social effects of substance misuse and appropriate interventions. Knowledge of the barriers and issues facing people with alcohol misuse. Impact of alcohol misuse on individuals and carers. Knowledge of the local area the service is based in (community services and groups). Knowledge of policies & procedures in relation to confidentiality, information sharing and safeguarding.

Desirable

Knowledge of alcohol NICE guidelines.

Qualifications Essential

Registered Nurse - NMC English and Maths GCSE/ or equivalent. Hold a current drivers license and car user.

Desirable

Evidence of continuing professional development /qualification with regards to area of specialism.

Experience of working with a range of organisations and agencies to develop effective working relationships. Experience of working independently. Experience of working with individuals with Alcohol use Disorders / substance misuse. Experience of working with hard to reach and difficult to engage individuals. Experience of assessing service users needs and working in partnership with them and other services to set and monitor goals. Experience in assessing and reviewing care plans and organising packages of care. Experience of maintaining quality standards in ones work. Experience of working within multi-agency /professional setting.

Experience of working in community settings Involvement in change /project management. Participation in audit.
